A Yakima water emergency describes Natchez River rising rapidly to a quarter mile wide just below Painted Rocks due to heavy mountain rains and snowmelt. The Natchez Canal headgate washed out. railroad tracks and telegraph wires damaged. Spokane route used for mail and passengers to Sound points.
Information from last night reports three washouts in the mountains between Ellensburg and the Sound. The worst washout lies just beyond Easton where about 300 feet of track parallel to the Yakima river was washed away. Afternoon and night trains westbound could not proceed far.
Rev. Maurice Bywater reported seeing Sheriff O'Neil in Prosser, noting McNeil's steady recovery from wounds from the Kenne wick outlaws fight. He is expected to resume official duties within ten days and rumors of worsening illness are unfounded. McNeil shows no danger of blood poisoning.
George Dymond was convicted of burglary for breaking into Miss Ethel Ide’s home near Zillah. The jury deliberated about an hour and a quarter, with testimony detailing stolen items found later and Dymond’s prior criminal history. Lifecycle sentence on a third felony conviction is life in prison.
Thirteen identified as dead or missing in the Baltimore and Ohio wreck near La Porte Indiana with about twenty more believed unlisted. Coroner Carson waits days for a verdict while freight crew contends the first section had no lights. Train sheet from Suma shows green lights displayed. Charred bodies are being moved to undertakers and labeled.
Deputy Sheriff John Edwards testified about trailing the Dymond brothers from Toppenish to Goldendale after they were seen with a large pack horse and extra horses near Miss Ide's cabin. Witnesses placed the brothers north of the cabin around June 13 and described their pack and horses during the pursuit. Edwards recounted a prior chase from Toppenish, stopping at a ranch owned by an ally named Stone before the case details were known.
P Beautrow, aiding Mr Miller's house move near the power house, barely escaped injury when a vicious steer charged. Two cowboys driving the crew into town fled. Beautrow hid in a root house until the steer was roped and tied to a tree.
Local report states Martin Cameron is the most probable successor to the late H. F. Nichols as receiver in the United States land office at North Yakima. The appointment is expected to receive general approval and Cameron is described as thoroughly qualified.
A St Petersburg dispatch reports an unsuccessful assassination attempt on Governor General Rennekampf in Irkutsk Siberia. The general escaped unharmed.
