Agressman Lewis Stops Over At Yakima For Talks
Hon James Hamilton Lewis alighted from an eight thirty eight west bound train on the seventeenth and lingered several hours in Yakima with attorneys Whitson and Parker to discuss business and the political outlook. He predicted Roosevelt may not seek the 1904 nomination, citing Wall Street opposition and a possible Root-led New York delegation. He forecast a Hill versus Pattison race for the presidency and praised Pennsylvania’s Pattison as a strong candidate. Lewis said he is temporarily out of politics but would stump for a worthy man and urged support for the new electric railway project in Yakima. He then departed for Seattle to consider making that city his home, denying plans to move to Chicago.
