Memory of Burks Banquet for Burns Draws Scottish Pride
The Yakima Hotel hosted a January 25 1902 Scottish American celebration by the Caledonian society of North Yakima in honor of Robert Burns. George Ker presided as toastmaster with toasts to Burns President Roosevelt and King Edward VII and songs by George S Vance and others. The feast featured haggis and whiskey and drew about 75 guests including many named locals. Col L S Howlett and S J Cameron attended, and there were many toasts recounting Burns lore and patriotic sentiment toward the United States.
