Fruit Inspector J M Brown pursues offenders selling or shipping diseased or infected fruit. The 1905 act sections impose fines and possible jail, require disinfection, and grant inspectors power to enforce notices and liens on property until costs are paid.
County Inspector Powers in Handling Infected Fruit Material
The county inspector must notify the person in charge to disinfect infected material within hours and describe the disinfection method. If refused, the inspector may destroy the material, fruit, boxes, or stands by burning. Appeals go to the state horticulture commissioner with twenty four hours notice to seize movable property. If the appeal is rejected, property is destroyed. otherwise returned. Inspectors must not act as sales agents. Violations lead to removal by the horticultural commissioner.

D. Bair Burned Out Rancher Loses Home in Fire
Henry D. Bair a rancher eight miles up the Natchez valley lost his house and all its contents in a morning fire. It is believed the blaze started from a lamp explosion and no one was inside. Insurance totaling $1,000 may cover the loss.

Hughes works for the Southern Pacific at Schurz Nevada and Mrs Hughes is the daughter of J M Farris of Toppenish. The couple left North Yakima August 9 and arrived in Reno the wedding day.
