A forty eight hour north easterly gale plus sleet rain and snow crippled telephone service across Richmond Borough Woodbridge Perth Amboy and Monmouth County. About 7500 phones were out nationwide with 4000 in Monmouth and 2181 in the Perth Amboy Woodbridge district after ice coated lines and damaged terminal boxes. Repair crews battled ice crusted poles and downed lines through Saturday night and Sunday with extended manpower and equipment to restore service.
