Miss Florence Cowins English teacher at Rahway High School is engaged to Robinson, announced at a Valentine bridge party held at her home. Guests learned of the betrothal via a heart shaped cake containing cement cards. decorations featured red hearts and streamers as several teachers helped with the announce.
Preliminary plans for the Janet Cage Chapter of the D A R birthday party were made at Mrs. Frank R Valentine’s Green Street home. Officers and members will be guests at the Congregational church next month. Miss Mildred Bigeis spoke on the student loan program and chapters aiding college-bound youth. Mrs. Valentine and Mrs. A R Bergen will represent the local chapter at the national conference in Washington D C in April. Mrs. Leland Reynolds reported on the national board of reviews meeting in New York City. During social hour Mrs A L R Bergen sang several pieces with Mrs. Valentine playing.
George H. Jacques 37 of Bergen street Newark was fined 225 dollars plus costs for drunken driving and operating a motor vehicle without a license by Judge Vogel. His truck helper Thomas Gromas 42 received five dollars and costs for drunkenness after both were arrested by Officer Somers on Amboy avenue following Jacques striking Henry Laub on Freeman street.
Bert Falnover of Vernon avenue Sewaren was fined 27.60 by Judge Bernard W. Vogel in a disorderly conduct case. The complainant Mrs. Mary Neu fick of Sewaren said Falnover arrived drunk, assaulted her husband, and broke several windows. Officers T Bishop and T Somers made the arrest.
The Ladies' Aid Society of Our Redeemer Lutheran church in Fords will host an afternoon and evening food sale in the church chapel. Items include clam chowder cakes bread pies frankfurters coffee and cookies with a table of fancy work available.
Mike Beris 41 formerly of Woodbridge now New York City was sentenced by Judge B Vogel to 30 days in the County workhouse for assaulting Mrs. Tler of Rahway Avenue Woodbridge. Beris allegedly broke into her home early Saturday took a gun and struck her during a dispute over property. Arrests were made by Sergeants Furson and Keating.
Rahway police ask the public to watch for William Hilton, 41, of 519 East Haselwood Avenue, missing from his home since February 20. He was last seen in Carteret trading nickels for bus tokens to reach Whedbridge.
A motion at a Board of Education meeting considered allowing a school bus to stop at St James School to pick up children from Jaclin area. Mrs Ryan argued St James educates about 319 pupils yearly, saving the township significant funds, but officials cited legal limits on funding for private schools. Prof Love noted costs and state rules, while notes on whooping cough and attendance were also presented.
St James School led township schools in the percentage of children depositing in the savings system with 190 percent. Port Reading second at 9 percent, followed by Avenel 90 and other schools. total deposit rate 80 percent. Educational thrift collections across general schools totaled $787.10, nine schools listed with amounts.
Four laborers were fined 100 each for larceny after Judge Bernart W. Vogel convicted Joseph Hoeffler 34 Anthony Karaiansky 36 Mike Solichush 43 and Leon Simsky 40 of chopping down trees on the L. C. Ryan estate property on Mlosida Grove Road. Police and estate representatives found several cords of green wood in their homes after repeated warnings not to take the wood.
Rehearsals are under way at the High School for the senior class play Skidding to be presented next Friday evening February 28 in the auditorium. The small town set in Infénho features a lively election theme with many humorous situations. Cast includes John Kopl John Hinkle Nirtani Erb Hasel Beekman Florente Neuesbaum Bernard Bernstein Evelyn Fox Charles Saj en Pearl Farr coached by Grace O Huber librarian. After the play a dance in the gym will follow with music by Shark River Hill Country Club orchestra.
The Young People's Society of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Port Reading will hold a dance on Tuesday evening March 4 at the Municipal Building Woodbridge to raise funds for the church. Music by Lind Brothers Clifwood Beach orchestra. Tickets at the door or from committee members including Anthony McNulty chair and many volunteers.

Ryan Mark D McClain on the school board and Dr M M Tratman spoke at a Liena Club meeting urging a public school dental clinic for the township Regular exams would help detect decay and protect child health McClain and the mayor emphasized support for the project and related township plans including a new park and a cooperative triangle at Green street and Rahway avenue.
A thief with a sweet tooth entered the Craftsmen's Club last evening through a side window, forcing the show case lock and taking candy and cigar items. Taken were one box Hershey bars one box Beech Nut gum one box of Beanut bars three cartons of Lusky Strike cigarettes one and a half cartons of Camel cigarettes two boxes of matches and multiple Hoxgi paper matches.
A benefit card party to aid a poor family will be held at the Jewish Community Center on School Street Wednesday evening February 26 at eight o clock. All usual games will be in play and prizes awarded. Tickets available from Mrs L Friedman Woodbridge Avenue or at the door.
The Middlesex Hotel and Restaurant on Main Street and Amboy Avenue reopens on March 1. Joseph Galaida renovated the building adding a spacious dining room with a stone fireplace, paneling, and a modern kitchen. The first floor includes private dining rooms and an office for real estate and insurance. John Brodeur’s Silver King Orchestra will perform at the opening dinner dance with several entertainers. Reservations indicate a successful event.
The G. E. T. Club of the Congregational church presents the one act play The Heart of a Clown tomorrow evening at the Elts Club in Bloomfield. It competes with other dramatic clubs in a local contest.
Prince Makula's Gypsy Orchestra will perform for dancing at the Stevens Club anniversary dinner dance tomorrow evening at Rahway Avenue. A full course dinner will be served at attractively decorated tables.

St James P T A declares an Easter Monday card party and dance for April 21 at the St James auditorium. Mrs John Cosgrove named chairman. The group reports $85 from a recent benefit movie and plans towels for the Kids Keep Well Camp.
Rev. Herbert K. England of Roselle spoke at a Rotary Club luncheon on Washington and Lincoln forming an ideal American. He gave brief biographies of each president and tied Democratic Lincoln traits to Washington’s leadership. The club planned a March return to Galalda's Hotel on Main Street. guests included George Gordon and Lyle Reed.
Wick avenue resident reports her son Harald was held up in Hopelawn on February 12 around midnight by two men who took 12 dollars. Dunham driving a car was asked for a ride. the men then asked for money. Unclear if a weapon was involved.
Norbet Joat age 11 of 723 Rahway Avenue Woodbridge was slightly injured last Friday evening when struck by a car driven by James Jankowski of State Street Perth Amboy. The accident occurred on Rahway Avenue near Trinity Lane and the boy was taken to Perth Amboy City Hospital for treatment by Dr. George W. Fithian.
A break in a ten inch gas main from Elizabethtown Consolidated Gas Company to Perth Amboy cut gas to multiple townhouses around 6 20 PM Tuesday. A truck likely broke the line causing the rupture and service was restored after about ninety minutes. Restaurants in Perth Amboy and nearby could not cook hot meals during the outage, losing patrons.
Over 100 women from Methodist Episcopal Presbyterian and First Presbyterian societies gathered for the second in a three part missionary series titled Steps in Witnessing at the First Presbyterian church. Guests included Mrs Breckenridge and Mrs Strome with reports on local concerns and plans for the Colored Capital church repairs and pastor salary funding.

A collision between a mushroom truck and a touring car at the Avenel street and new state highway intersection killed Robert McDonald 51 and near fatally injured Fred Weber 28 both of Lincoln New Jersey. Peter Demoro the car driver escaped with minor injuries as did two other car passengers James Rafferty and Joseph Curceo. The truck driver William Watkins 23 of Kenneth Square Philadelphia faces manslaughter charges. All five car occupants were en route to Port Reading for a Middlesex County Fremens Association meeting.
Melstermad Samuels, a 39 Hedden Terrace Newark attorney, died at Perth Amboy City Hospital at 12 40 a m Wednesday from internal injuries after a Tuesday evening crash on the new highway. He rode with Henry Sev rin the other passenger Nathan Shaw escaped with minor injuries. Jones the truck driver and Sevrin were held on manslaughter charges. Meisterman was a well known local attorney who once worked with Senator Brown. Dr Lowery and Dr Spargo visited the high school yesterday.
