Special Officer Celestin Minueet of the Philadelphia and Reading railroad at Port Reading is held on 1090 bail for the Grand Jury on a charge of aggravated assault and battery after Dominick Puta was shot twice in the knees and neck. Puta, 36, of Mercer Street Carteret, testified he went to the docks to seek work on a steamer when he was shot after pleading with Minucci. Minucci said he warned Puta earlier and that a struggle occurred during an attempted arrest leading to the discharge of a gun. Detective Keating testified he found Puta at Carteret Police HQ and sent him to the hospital.

Local resident overcome by gas in Woodbridge cellar
Ben Erdey, 42, of 505 Bamford Avenue, Woodbridge, was overcome by gas fumes in his flooded cellar. Found semi conscious Monday afternoon with a wide open gas jet, police notified, Patrol Driver Thomas Somers transported Erdey to Perth Amboy General Hospital. Pederson reportedly extorted bribes along the truck route, and a salesman, James McDonald, reported the incident after Pederson brandished a revolver and demanded payment to fix a speeding ticket. Police broadcast Pederson’s name and he faced weapons charges.
