Township to reopen schools September 3 in large enrollment

Township schools set to reopen on Wednesday September 3 with a large enrollment anticipated. Buildings have been prepped with repainted rooms, renewed blackboards, new front walk, soundproofing, and a near completion of the new household arts building.

Playgrounds To Officially Close Tomorrow Night

The Wootttridge playgrounds will close tomorrow night per Supervising Principal John H. Love and Playground Directors Lincoln M. Tamboer and Jane Dunigan. Regular games proceed and children may try clay modeling one last time. Weather permitting the grounds will stay open under caretaker William Finn supervision. Construction on the new section proceeds with a rest house, white pagodas by the pool, cemented wading pool, and completed roller skating walks and tennis courts may become among the finest in the area.

Business low mood discussed at Woodbridge Rotary lunch

Samuel J. Rodman of the Perth Amboy Y M H A spoke on business mood and unemployment at the Woodbridge Rotary Club meeting at the Middlesex Hotel. He urged wise legislation and supervision to curb downturns. The golf cup, donated by Rotarian Frank Johnson, will honor the winner of a tri-club tournament. Brother of Howard Tompkins Drowns in Florida

Homer Tompkins of Woodbridge drowned in Jacksonville Florida while attempting to rescue two other boys. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Marshall Tompkins and brothers Howard and Hugh. Funeral plans await arrival of brothers. He had planned to enter the University of Florida this fall.

Holohan Nominated Commander for Woodbridge Post

William Holohan was named as candidate for Commander of Woodbridge Post No. 87 American Legion. The nominating committee listed other officers, and election is set for September 25. Delegates were instructed to back Frank Dughan for County Commander. County Man Fined For Reckless Driving

Constantion Zaricky a 37 year old mechanic of New Brunswick was fined 15 dollars plus costs for reckless driving. Judge B W Vogel imposed the penalty after Zaricky was cited by Officer Allen McDonnell for speeding on the super-highway and running a red light at the intersection with Upper Green Street despite efforts to stop.

Iselin Firemen Answer Alarm After Garage Fire

Iselin Fire Department answered a blaze at Maxwell Rule's garage and service station on Lincoln Highway at 6 30. A burning automobile in the rear caused considerable damage but firefighters contained it quickly. A new code box was installed after last week’s siren failure. Brother of John H Love Buried Today

Funeral services for Clarence Love 43, brother of Supervising Principal John H Love, were held at Greiner Funeral Home. He died in Shanghai on July 14 after serving in the Chinese Maritime Service and living in Perth Amboy, with a career in Lung Chung Teun, Manchuria. He studied at Woodbridge schools and was skilled in several Chinese dialects.

Police Nab Five in Fulton Street Raid Saturday

A late night raid on the Sliver Star Restaurant on Fulton Street by officers led by George Balint arrested two women and three men on disorderly conduct charges. Bail fixed for two arrested in prohibition raid

Bail of 1000 dollars each was fixed Wednesday for Michael B Sliger alleged proprietor of Wana’s Restaurant on St George's avenue and Henry Blenko bartender by Commissioner Augustus L Friedman of Newark on charges of sale and possession of intoxicating liquors. Wana's at the entrance of the speedway was raided by federal prohibition agents who seized beer and other liquors.

Identification sought for auto victim in Newark incident

Possible identification of the man killed when a car driven by Erwin Eichholz, 17, of Newark, struck him on St George avenue near the Colonial Tea Room may be made at Coroner Kerny's Perth Amboy office. An unidentified body found at the coroner may match a missing Perth Amboy husband, aided by witnesses who say the victim walked into traffic. Eyewitnesses say Wis Boul appeared unaware of traffic. Eichholz's helper, Young Hichholz, says the man walked into his fender after he tried to swerve. Bichholz was later released on a technical manslaughter charge after his parents posted $1,500 bond.

Funeral services are set for Sigried Jensen a 28 year old carpenter of Jensen weenie Fords who died by suicide in his garage.
