Attends Parents Golden Wedding In Wisconsin

F. B. Turner returns from trips to Detroit Chicago and several Wisconsin points. He visited Ford plants in Detroit viewed Chicago league games and toured Wright cottages at Greenup. He helped celebrate his parents golden wedding anniversary at Barnum Wisconsin and stopped in La Crosse and Minneapolis on the return.

Farmers Union Puts In Track Loader

The Farmers Union installed a track loader here and farmers use it to ship grain directly. In three weeks it has loaded more than 25 000 bushels of wheat. Three car loads were loaded Wednesday.

Leavitt Outlines Montana Situation For Hoover Bid

Montana's 104000 square mile district backed Hoover for president citing farmer interests and St Lawrence Waterway. Congressman Scott Leavitt told a Chicago meeting that Montana will deliver four electoral votes and praised Hoover's farm policy tariff stance and wheat pricing vindication. He urged immediate national organization support and plans to return home to launch reelection bid.

Bible study in schools to begin next week

Supt F H Livingston announces a school Bible study start next week on Wednesday. Parents will choose which church their children attend for religious instruction, following the same plan as in prior years. Also, Iris Hardie returns from Yellowstone Park to assume the role of chief operator at the Wolf Point exchange.

Roosevelt County Fair to Open in New Building

The Roosevelt County Fair will be held October 5 and 6 at Culbertson. The new building under construction will house the event though not finished. Keplinger reports enclosing the structure for use, with radios, speeches, races, and a free movie attracting exhibitors. An industrial display by local merchants will showcase cars, trucks, farm machinery, and household goods. Large crowds are expected both days.

Four Men Sent to Deer Lodge in County Court

Judge S. Paul presided as several criminal cases moved through the Deer Lodge court. Allen Stewart pleaded guilty to grand larceny for stealing a Ford coupe from the First State Bank area and received one to two years. Roy Greenup admitted to grand larceny for selling 237 bushels of wheat and burglary. he drew one to two years concurrent. James Marshall was released after Greenup failed to corroborate his accusation. Jess Parker pleaded guilty to forgery and was sentenced to one to two years. Milton A. Robertson, also charged with forgery, received one to two years. George Kelly, held on illegal possession of firearms, awaits next session after county attorney reviews his Arizona record.

Roosevelt County Wheat Crop Ranks Fifth in State Output

Roosevelt county harvested 3,885,000 bushels of wheat in 1928, placing fifth among Montana counties. The county shows the largest year over year increase, 1,248,000 bushels, aided by undeveloped Indian lands. The region’s big four northeast counties Sheridan, Daniels, Roosevelt and Valley produced 29,415,000 bushels in 1927-28, with 13,555,000 in 1927 and 15,860,000 in 1928, per State crop reports.

Golf Club Seeks Participants For Annual Championship

Members must register and submit 18 hole scores by 1 pm Saturday September 2 to form flights for 18 hole elimination play starting Sunday. Registration and current scores are at Huxsol Drug Store. Seventeen players posted scores last week with Burgess and Marron tying for medal honors at 84 and Chapman next at 86.

New Airport at Miles City Dedicates Air Show Event

Miles City Sept 24. A dedication parade in the air marked the opening of the new Miles City airport as about a score of aircraft from nine Montana communities and nearby states took part. Earl Vance won the first over 16 miles with 17 minutes 40 seconds, and Lucas won the under 100 horsepower race in 20 minutes 52 seconds.

Helena Visitors Return From State Fair and Campaign

Helena residents report visitors from nearby areas returning after attending the State Fair and events for Al Smith. Notable locals include J. H. Colfer and W. Kearney praising Smith’s magnetism. Other figures visited between trains and described political activity statewide. An eight mile farm near town yielded over 22 000 bushels from 500 acres of wheat, with field yields up to 47 bushels per acre. Plane Demonstration Fatal at Miles City Airport

Robt Moore, a 22 year old aviator, dies in a crash at the Miles City airport during an air show. His pilot, John P Nockels of Billings, also perishes when the Travel Air plane plunges from 200 to 500 feet. The accident followed a ride invitation at dedication ceremonies.

Large liquor plant seized near Bainville in Montana raid

Prohibition Agent Jack Marmon and Assistant Waddell raided a moonshine outfit about 10 miles southeast of Bainville on the Missouri river. They held two men, Bronnel and a man known as Mike, bail set at 600 dollars. The distillery included two stills and 400 gallons of mash. no liquor found, plant destroyed. The men were strangers in the area.

Wheat Shipments Pass Half a Million

Wheat shipments from Wolf Point reach 647000 bushels by September 25 with 7 cent prices and protein premiums lifting many to over a dollar per bushel.
