571 Students Enrolled in City Schools

Alumni News reports a large but challenged enrollment with more pupils and fewer new teachers. Text shortages persist while desks remain scarce. Eighth and seventh grades adopt a junior high plan. several teachers listed with grade assignments. Total in town tallies 571 students across Northside and Southside locations plus high and junior high.

Roosevelt County Fair Announces Children Day Activities

Friday September 27 will be free admission for school age children at Roosevelt County Fair. Tickets are being distributed to city school superintendents and rural teachers. any child can collect at the gate. The event features educational exhibits, vaudeville acts, Fort Peck Indian contests, Wolf Point band music, with Community Day to follow on September 28. A. W. Warden, County Agent.

Community Fair at Volt September 25

A multi community event at Volt school grounds features exhibits from Waska Volt Wide Awake French Pioneer Golden Valley and Ben rod with a noon picnic dinner. A Wolf Point band concert and H N Marron talk precede sports including horseshoe pitching tug of war hog calling potato wheelbarrow and various races. County agent Mr. Smith will speak on farm topics amid high school enrollment notes and alumni updates. Hunters report good duck shooting with legal limits on the season opener.

Hinsdale Society to Visit Wolf Point Bridge Event

Wm. A. Burgess learned in Hinsdale that about a dozen cars of a local historical society will visit the partly constructed Wolf Point bridge across the Missouri river next Sunday September 22. They plan a picnic dinner at the site and invite local pioneers and city representatives to join. Special invitations go to Thos R Forbes and Judge Charles Gordon.

New Manager Named for Valley Tribune in Bainville

Ben E. Luebke of Froid has become manager of the Valley Tribune and started duties Monday. He previously worked five years at Producers News in Plentywood and is highly recommended. The Tribune notes continued community support and goodwill from Bainville residents. Mrs. Luebke was formerly Miss Ethel Gebbardt of Bainville.

Farmers Form Shipping Association Forms

A representative body of farmers largely members of the Farmers Union met at the Coliseum to form a shipping association for cattle hogs sheep and poultry. Oscar B. Horsford was elected president and Fremont Green named business manager with duties to ship and sell stock. Charles Meyers was secretary and the board includes Fred Buettner and Clarence Chamberlain with Montana grain inspector petition noted.

Pastor's resignation regrettably accepted in Chinook meeting

Last Sunday the resignation of Sydney A. Walker was read to the congregation by Nell McFar lan and, after slight discussion, was regretfully accepted. The Presbytery of Great Falls will meet today at Chinook to dissolve the pastoral relationship and grant Mr. Walker the right to declare the pulpit vacant.

State fair livestock show promises record entries

Adena notes requests for entry are arriving from across the state and Washington as the state fair opens September 23. Herds and flocks in excellent condition line up for four divisions beef cattle dairy cattle sheep and swine with last year exceeding 1000 cattle sheep swine and goats. A new 136 by 200 foot sheep display building is under construction for opening day.

Big Inland Empire Awaits Railroad Development

C Po Swedberg visited Jordan last Friday and was impressed by the town and surrounding farming and grazing lands. He notes Jordan as a fine small city with strong cattle breeding. The anticipated railroad into Garfield County would benefit local farmers and ranchers who have developed the region despite distant shipping facilities. The Sidney school board now charges $100 yearly tuition for nonresident students.

Annual Montana Press Convention Held at Glacier Park

The Montana State Press association known as the Press Gang met at Many Glaciers hotel in Glacier National Park with about 180 attendees, a record. T. F. Rucker became president, Henry Wearer was re elected secretary, and Great Northern President Budd extended a cordial invitation. The event paired publishers and editors for two days of meetings and leisure, promising a fuller report in the next issue.

Secreary Gordon reports steady bridge work at Wolf Point over the Missouri with abutments finished and piers progressing. The United States Court of Claims sat three days in the Sherman hotel palm room hearing testimony in the Assiniboines suit against the United States for land, starvation losses, and buffalo slaughter damages.

Annual Meeting of Citizenship League Held At County Fair

The Citizenship League announces its annual meeting under the constitution. It designates Culbertson as the meeting place at the county fair on Friday September 27 at 4 p.m. at the Methodist Church. Brockton Wheat Report Shows High Protein Levels

Brockton reports seven months without rain yet wheat average eight bushels per acre after threshing. Grain grades run No 2 dark northern. The top protein sample, 20.40 percent, came from Frank Svoboda who farms 14 miles south of Brockton for Farmars Elevator Company.

Rural Free Delivery For Volt Community

A petition signed by almost all Volt patrons led to favorable post office action and bids are invited to cover the route three times weekly. The star route north from Wolf Point will serve Volt first, with the new R F 20 leaving Volt Monday Wednesday and Friday after Wolf Point mail arrives. Service to begin October 14. A barn on the Tuomson farm north of town burned yesterday afternoon around 4 o'clock, with total loss and no one home.

Three alumnae Harold Shipman Ima Herman and Cleo Plant presented a musical program at the high school assemblyThursday with Mrs EB Shipman accompanying Harold on two solos and Cleo Flint offering two piano pieces. Doris Nichol reports safe arrival in California and plans a visit with relatives in Watsonville. A Silverstar Hall dance on Saturday Sept 21 features Ben Andersons band and invites all attendees.
