Roosevelt outlines six point plan for farm relief in Topeka

In Topeka on Wednesday Governor Roosevelt addressed more than 10,000 farmers. He urged national planning in agriculture and criticized Farm Board policies as speculative while proposing six specifications to restore agricultural economic parity and reduce farm debt. He called for tariff adjustments, self financing, local administration, cooperative operation, and voluntary participation.

Goin Car Upset Near Toulee Creek

Mr and Mrs Earl Goin of northeast Poplar were returning from the Valley fair when their car overturned near Toulee Creek. Both occupants were badly bruised and taken to Wolf Point for medical care. They escaped more serious injuries.

Peter Johnson Dies Suddenly in Montana

Funeral services for Peter Johnson were held Sunday at Clayton funeral parlors. Born in Aal, Norway in March 1868, he emigrated to the United States in 1888 and homesteaded near Alexander, North Dakota before moving to Montana. Death attributed to a heart attack after longstanding asthma. body found near his shack by Mrs. George Hagen. Survived by brothers Sakarius Johnson of Alexander, North Dakota and Hans Johnson of Portland, and sister Mrs. Blate Wallen of Straden, Norway.

J B Overton Dies After Long Illness

J B Overton longtime Southside resident died last Friday from heart trouble after a lengthy illness. He leaves several children, all grown except a 14 year old son. Funeral services were held Saturday and burial followed locally.

Culbertson Stars Win In County League Finale

Two game Sunday at the ball park featured Malta and Saco all stars against Red Brandon’s Northeast Montana stars and Vida Culbertson in a pennant deciding clash. Gov Erickson attended and threw the first half of the county league game. Vida clinched the pennant in the ninth as Culbertson shaded Vida in a tight finish, with strong pitching by Brown and Dye and a late Moen slam. Fans, officials, and a loyal crowd created a lively season end atmosphere as the town praised the season’s strong finish and looked ahead to 1938.

Community Golf Tourney Sunday at Wolf Point

County reports 130 teachers in the district

The county superintendent reports that 60 rural schools in the county are not open, and with six town schools, 120 teachers are employed.

Glasgow fair and highway celebration a great success

The Glasgow fair and Highway No. 2 dedication drew large crowds after two days of rain. Governor Erickson, Congressman Leavit and Scott Hart spoke on irrigation and eastern market access, while Opheim singers and a livestock parade highlighted the program.

Lions Create Hospital Committee For Town Project

At a Monday Lions Club meeting President Jensen announced a five member committee to oversee a modern hospital project. Members named were Hush, Marron, Robert, Coffey, Listitz and Herman. The group will evaluate Miss Margaret Bedder of Terry's proposal to supply hospital equipment and manage operations on agreed terms.

Valley fair draws wide turnout at Glasgow event

Large crowd from Glasgow and nearby towns attended the Valley county fair on Saturday. Families and individuals including Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Lising, Mrs. Grace Severson, the Maltbys, the Fishbachs, and many others visited stands and enjoyed the food. Wm Meter, a farmer across the river, reports a fine crop of musk melons of a new Rocky Ford variety. The acre yield was especially productive and quality was excellent with netted gray-green fruit. Meier regularly ships melons to Circle, Brockway, and Wolf Point after harvest.
