Montana crop report forecasts record 1922 yields plus notes

The Montana Federal State Crop Reporting Service forecasts 1922 totals for wheat at 41 million bushels, oats 18.74 million, corn 6.624 million, flax 1.732 million and barley 1.637 million. Hay and alfalfa are expected strong, with tame hay 1.955 million tons, wild hay 680 thousand tons, and wool at 15.35 million pounds. Pasture and range are generally excellent. apples are projected at 509 thousand bushels.

A severe hail storm hit Bitter Root apple area reducing quality and likely output. Estimates place Montana apple shipments at under 300 carloads in 1922, far below 1921's 686 and 1920's 443. Montana potatoes are forecast at 7,252,000 bushels with generally favorable growing conditions.

Gits Cream Station Closes Season At Wolf Point

The Gits cream station in Wolf Point will close on September 15 after a successful season. From June to August the plant served 157 patrons delivering 31,400 pounds of cream and 10,300 pounds of butter fat, earning farmers about 2600 dollars. Mr. Gits expects to handle three to four times this amount next year and hopes to stay open longer, possibly year round.

Conley Case Goes Under Advisement in Montana Court

The final brief by the defendant in the State of Montana versus Frank Conley former warden of the state penitentiary was filed Monday afternoon. The case taken up April 12 is concluded and submitted to Judge A J Horsky for consideration. The matter now rests under advisement by the presiding judge.

Indian Harvest Festival to Open at Wolf Point

The Fort Peck Indians plan a three day Harvest Festival September 28 to 30 in Wolf Point with Indian leadership sanctioned by Supt. Kitch. The event features war dances, farming and crafts displays, livestock and crop contests, prize money, and a permanent festival organization led by Thomas Flynn and others.

Highway Meeting at Wolf Point Saturday

The Molana Division of the Theodore Roosevelt International Highway Association will hold its regular annual meeting at the Palm Room in the Sherman hotel on Saturday September 16 at 10 o clock a.m. Delegates from towns along the line are expected.
