Accidents Plague Wheat Rush Drivers In Area

An influx of threshing and marketing activity brings a string of vehicle wrecks and injuries. Near Vida, George McCartney and John Kiester crashed a Hd Schillinger truck. Kiester suffered two broken ribs, McCartney head and arm injuries. Sid Securey flipped his truck while returning lumber, breaking a rib and receiving numerous cuts. Dean Herman’s wheat truck rolled over, cutting his arm. Sam Wagaman’s nap caused a minor fender dent. A Geo Newton rodeo son’s Chevrolet left in a ditch, glass shattered, fenders ruined. A suspected week‑old Glasgow delivery accident on a new track allegedly left a woman driver’s cab torn off.

Riverside Italian Mission Meeting Draws Local Turnout

Wheat Trucker Held For Grand Larceny In County Jail

Rey Greenup a married man living north of Poplar is jailed on grand larceny charges after admitting guilt at arraignment before Justice Fred Turner. He trucking wheat for Zentz sold three loads worth about 200 dollars, cashed checks, paid about 140 dollars owed to others, and failed to disclose prior sales. Elevator records tied checks to Greenup, $50 recovered, district court to hear case soon. Greenup has wife and two children. Undersheriff Counet said act bold and foolish with little local precedent.

Young People Going to College This Year

Wolf Point anticipates a large college enrollment as local students head to institutions nationwide. Cleo Flint and Irma Herman go to Minneapolis for Minnesota University and MacPhail School of Music respectively, with many others bound for Dillon, Missoula, Berkeley, and Seattle for further studies.

Miss Ruth MacFarlane departs Sunday for Portland to pursue commercial chemistry work. She served three years at Wolf Point High School teaching history and science, directing girls athletics, advising the class, and coaching drama, and will be greatly missed.

Banks Install Pro-Tex Tear Gas in Wolf Point Banks

George A. Didier of Pro-Tex Corp Chicago installed tear gas protective systems on vault doors at First Nations and First State banks in Wolf Point, making them highly protected against burglary. Similar installations followed at Fairview State Bank and a Wibaux bank. Didier said the system is virtually infallible, with tear gas causing temporary blindness to deter thieves, while jewels and fabrics are unharmed.

Medicine Lake Man Burned In Gasoline Fire

James Miller from near Medicine Lake suffered severe burns Saturday when gasoline spilled at a barrel to tractor transfer ignited, likely from a cigarette. Fire spread to his clothing, burned the garments off, with only his face and feet escaped. Moore and companion extinguished the blaze and Moore drove him to Wolf Point General Hospital for treatment.

Robert Ingersoll Dies in Denver Watch Founder

Denver reports the death of Robert Ingersoll a noted watchmaker and originator of the Ingersoll dollar watch. He had been a patient at the sanitarium since June 17 and died Tuesday.

Wheat Shipments Grow Across Great Northern Line

The Great Northern reports 200 tons of wheat shipped since the 1928 crop marketing began, about 280000 bushels. Much of the threshed grain remains unsold due to trucking shortages and low prices.

Schnitzler Reports Huge Wheat Crop Near Froid

J W Schnitzler of Froid says his farm yielded about 200000 bushels of wheat this season, up from roughly 135000 last year. An 160 acre field averaged 4914 bushels per acre, highlighting a bumper harvest in the region.

Autumn calls back Wolf Point vacationists with many returning from Wisconsin Minnesota Washington and Lake Metonka. Supt and Mrs Livingston and sons John and Robert drove home in a new Oldsmobile after study at the University of Wisconsin. Rev S A Walker and family plus Rev A O Johnson and family came back from Minnesota. Mrs Chas Warmbrod and daughter Hather visited Washington Portland and Pasco. The Cogswells and Miss Alma Cogswell returned from Lake Metonka and Vida. The Ja cobs and Mrs Julia Jacobs finished a two week trip returning Monday evening.

Air mail plane crash near Pocatello kills seven

Seven people die when a National Parks Airways Super Universal Fokker monoplane crashes during landing at Pocatello Idaho. Pilot Paul Wheatley of Salt Lake City and W A McLean a traveling magazine representative are among the dead. The flight originated in Great Falls Montana with Great Falls passengers returning home to Ogden Utah.

Roosevelt County Fair to Have New 40x100 Exhibit Hall

The Roosevelt County Fair contract is let for a 40 by 100 foot frame exhibit hall to be built by contractor Keplinger of Rainville. Work begins this week with the building expected ready for the 1928 crops and garden display, featuring wall space for displays and future use for community exhibits. Merchants donate premiums alongside cash prizes for top classes.

Martin Jacobs Reports Bumper Wheat Crop Near Wolf Paint

Martin Jacobs harvested about 9200 bushels from a 2h1 acre field four miles north of Wolf Paint. Ground broken last year and a tractor used. field was combined over roughly five and a half days. Hauling and combining cost about 12 cents per bushel. Schwinden, seven to eight miles northeast, also reports a bumper crop with average yields around 30 bushels per acre, some higher.

A field on Mrs. Paul Schilinger's homestead in Cow Creek country produced a 40 bushel per acre yield for spring wheat. Jens Dahl farmed the ground and the grain was harvested by combining.
