Roosevelt County Fair Adds New Features For 2 Day Event

The Roosevelt County Fair will run September 23-24 with races vaudeville acts and band music plus new attractions. A trap shoot hosted by the Froid Gun club opens to all, with beginners and experts shooting clay pigeons near the east fair grounds. Horseshoes, football game plans with adjacent towns, and a robust race program aim to entertain all ages.

Wolf Point vacationers return as school opens

School opens and residents resume routines with many travelers back from summer trips. Superintendent and Mrs. F. He Livingston return from Elk Mound and Madison. L. M. Clayton and Jenior finish a Canada trip via Regina to Winnipeg. Mrs. Clayton's father Joseph Greenwood joins from Grand Forks.

Florian B McCann Charged With Assault

Florian B McCann of Hainville was arrested on assault charges. The case is set for September 8 in Bainville. He allegedly beat a coworker, A M Foor, and E L Walton, and attended court in Circle this week.

Miles City Men Lead Montana Republican Convention

A. T. Listug and J. W. Schnitzler attended the Helena convention. Joseph M. Dixon was temporary chairman. Joseph D. Scanlan of Miles City Star was elected chairman of the state central committee. C. Tom Busha re elected secretary and Joseph A. Hanlon of Billings treasurer. Harry B. Brooks named director of publicity with Floyd L. Smith as assistant.

Tenderfoot Gets Fill of Wild West Stuff

Kenneth Copeland, a transient, faced Judge Gordon on a gun charge and received a thirty day sentence suspended on a $10 fine. The case arose after a harvest trip near Dutton and Nashua, where he and three companions, two Norwegians, one Californian, and one Kansan, partyed with moonshine. Copeland, found nearly lifeless on the prairie, later borrowed the fine. the night’s events included a dance hoax and a bottle of strong liquor known as moonshine.

Merchants Institute Meeting Set For Monday

The Montana Retail Merchants association and the Montana university School of Business Administration sponsor a merchants institute to be held at the Sherman hotel next Monday at 10 a m. Ten Mill Levy Up At Nov Election

County commissioners in regular session approved placing a 10 mill road levy on the November ballot for 1931. They also decided to submit the question of a county agent to voters and met in special session to discuss Brockton and McCabe special improvement districts.

Little Ruth Daley of Frazer was brought to Wolf Point for surgical treatment after a small dog she played with snapped at her nose, nearly biting it off. The wound required several stitches.

No Hunting Allowed of Upland Game Birds in Montana 1930

A Helena bulletin from the State Fish and Game Commission reports the August 25 1930 meeting order closing upland game birds hunting in all Montana for the 1930 season due to scarcity. Ducks remain the only game bird lawful to shoot that fall, with violations punishable as a misdemeanor.

Arrested On Charge Shooting County Horse Near Wolf Point

Ralph Howe of near Wolf Point was arrested by Sheriff Mason Knapp on a grand larceny charge for shooting a range horse owned by Chappell Bros. He pleaded not guilty before Justice Harmon and was bound over to district court. The case may go to a Sept. 15 jury term after a forthcoming information by County Attorney Hoover. Witness Walter Jones claimed to have eye-witnessed the event, which occurred about Nov. 1, 1929, and the horse was used for hog feed. Howe's attorney is E. L. Walton. Homer Hoover prosecutes.

Home Golf Meet Nearing Two Sundays

A home golf tournament is scheduled for the next two Sundays with a qualifying round on the first Sunday forenoon. All who plan to enter are urged to attend, including women golfers who are encouraged to join. if enough interest exists a separate women’s tournament may be organized.

George Van Back To Stand Trial In Kalispell

Kalispell Sept 3 George Van slayer of Mr and Mrs C H Haldereen and Fred B Smith at the Sullwater inn near Olney was returned to Kalispell to stand trial for triple murder by Sheriff Ralph Ripke and Under sheriff Adams after a week in the mountains along the Canadian border He said he was ready to take his medicine and blamed the moon for his crimes.

Burgess Takes Second at Glendive Golf Tourney

A Glendive golf event drew about 150 players from Wolf Point to Williston with Wm. Kostelecky Sr. of Dickinson winning. J. R. Burgess earned second place, earning a handsome leather traveling bag. Several locals and Wolf Point players competed, with Arlie Foor winning the 16th flight and J. E. Wamsley runner up in the 13th.

Valley Stream N Y September 2 Captain Dieudonne Coste and Maurice Bellonte land the Question Mark in 37 hours 18 minutes after taking off from Le Bourget Paris completing a nonstop Atlantic crossing. They beat Lindbergh’s record time but benefited from a favorable eastward wind. A 5000-strong crowd greeted the French crew as escort ships hovered above.

Youth Forged Checks Must Stand Trial in Glasgow

Kenneth Q. Klevin, 19, of Minneapolis, arrested at Wolf Point and returned to Glasgow on forgery charges. He allegedly forged his uncle Gilbert Klevin’s name to checks for 40, 30, and 70 dollars, cashed or used in Nashua and Wolf Point. Bond set at 500 dollars. district court hearing planned for Saturday, September 6.

Poplar assault case shifts to Septimal trial

Everett Booth and Finley Smith were arrested in Poplar on charges of assault and battery against Charles Robbins. Robbins sustained injuries requiring days in Poplar hospital. Bonds set at 1000 dollars. defendants jailed pending trial before Judge Turner. Also reported, Dr. H B Cloud harvested 15000 bushels from 4000 acres near Medicine Lake with average 15 bushels per acre and prices 1 38 to 3 93 cents per bushel.

Champlins Head to California for Winter Visit
