Crowds Pack Fifth Wolf Point Trade Carnival Close

Saturday capped Wolf Point fifth trade carnival with record buying and selling. Merchants bragged of peak business and farmers moved over 30 000 bushels of wheat to six elevators, as South Side trucks ferried in a steady stream throughout the day.

Three of Family Die from Food Poisoning Incident

Will iam Thellen farmer near Plevin is mourning as his wife and three children die after eating tainted corn at a Sunday meal. Two other daughters Geraldine and Elizabeth are critically ill with the poison under treatment by Baker physicians. Coroner Blackmore reports no inquest. bodies taken to Baker awaiting funeral arrangements.

Court sentences Clyde West for grand larceny

District Court, Judge Paul presiding, sentenced Clyde West to one to two years in the penitentiary after a guilty plea for grand larceny in Wolf Point involving a Chevrolet owned by John O Dick of Frazer. Other arraignments include B Jones for robbing a harvest hand at Bainville and administrative matters regarding J R Smith estate and child adoption.

The Big Parade war epic from King Vidor at Liberty Theatre

Boy Fires Strawstack and Destroys Flax Mill at Conrad

A flax mill built in 1915 at Conrad, valued at $50,000, was totally destroyed by a Saturday afternoon fire sparked when a strawstack fire spread to the mill. A small boy reportedly started the straw stack blaze. investigators could not determine the exact method. Efforts to save the mill were fruitless.

Yale honors Big Parade film with official approval

The Big Parade receives Yale official approval for showing at Liberty Theatre on November 5 6 7. President Angell and the Faculty secretary endorse the film, the first time a wide popular film has been honored in this way. The move follows a long university dramatic association effort. Meanwhile in Montana heavily armed guards have been stationed at Williams County jail in Williston after reports of a planned jail delivery for Lester Barge, accused of murdering H N Peterson, with a trial set for early November.

Wolves Rout Sidney 26 to 0 In High School Football

The Wolf Point team defeated Sidney 26 to 0 last Saturday afternoon in Sidney. Scorers were La Roque Barton Littlefield and Vinson with Vinson kicking goals in the second and fourth quarters. Yardage was Wolf Point 326 Sidney 100. Key players included La Roque Littlefield Barton Vinson on offense and Herman Beyer Pipal White Burnison Cusker Severson. Next, Wolf Point travels to Plentywood for a big game against the eastern district champion hopefuls. Mrs. J D Stone has been ill with the flu this week.

Prison Break At Williston Jail Sparks Alarm

Williston local jail saw ten inmates refuse to leave as three men escaped by sawing window bars. Nilliston inmates A D Williams, Leo Sullivan, and Theodore Deauville tied to burglary and grand larceny, with Deauville to serve one year. Sullivan 6 feet 8 inches and slim, Williams 5 feet 8 with no teeth. Barge brothers held for a bank case remained secure in a separate cell. Froid Man Secures High Wheat Premium at Bainville

From a carload of wheat shipped to Minneapolis and sold on Sept, Arthur Ryder drew $1.78 per bushel with a 10 cent premium after testing 17 percent, the season’s highest test at Bainville testing station and the top premium on the Minneapolis market this year. The grain came from Ryder’s reservation farm in the Brockton area.

Roosevelt Boys Vie At Plentywood Corn Judging Team

Roosevelt County Corn Judging team members Ralph Riorge and William Bentsen, from Lanark and McCabe corn clubs, compete in the Corn Cla judging contest at Plentywood this week. The contest, open to seven northern Montana counties, follows trials at Culbertson and a final tryout at McCabe on October 21. Both boys have three to four years of corn club experience and strong judging knowledge.

Bridge Conference Unites Factors in Firm Support

Four masked bandits rob Outlook Security State Bank

Four unmasked bandits robbed the Security State Bank at Outlook around ten o’clock Tuesday forenoon, taking about $2145 in cash. Cit izens outside exchanged shots. no one was hit. The robbers fled in a Chrysler sedan, leaving a broken window behind. Bank staff and seven customers were forced into the vault but escaped as the vault dial was not locked. The description: three men around 180 pounds each, one tall and dark, others of medium complexion. Authorities pursued toward Plentywood, with sheriffs alerted in surrounding counties. This marked the third unmasked bank robbery in about ten days following Froid and Flaxville heists.

Lad Topples Flower Urn Ends in Tragic Death

HELENA Oct 25 A boy named Peter Hames Jr four and a half years old died after his head was crushed when a large cement flower urn toppled while he played. Police searched for four hours to locate his home to inform his parents Mr and Mrs Peter Hames. He had wandered with local boys and was known only as Peter. Separately the piece notes that about half of United States oranges lemons and grapefruit are packed and marketed by cooperative associations.

Missouri Will Be Bridged At Wolf Point

A bridge across the Missouri River at Wolf Point will be built soon, say promoters after Tuesday’s conference. State and federal highway officials, Great Northern Railway officials, and many others expressed support and readiness to cooperate to fund and complete the project. Local farmers and Wolf Point residents express gratitude for attention to the bridge need and confidence in achieving construction.
