Farmers Meet Compare Data in Roosevelt County Sessions

The first of three farmers conferences was held in the court room Monday afternoon with solid attendance from Roosevelt county farmers and a few from McCone. A. W. Warden led discussions on soil management tillage weed control cost per acre of wheat seed wheat smut treatment sweet clover flax profitability and related topics. A second meeting followed in Bainville on Tuesday and a third is planned for Culbertson on November 12 focusing on livestock.

North Dakota Potato King Visits Montana

A. A. Stenjhem of McKenzie County near Arnegard is hailed as a potato king for seed potatoes. He and brother Peter spoke with The Herald about 100 carloads of certified seed, his 100 acre crop yielding 20 000 bushels. He invented a unit planting system segregating potatoes by health and thriftiness. Malta boxing match postponed due to weather. Clyde Nefzer found not guilty in district court with his daughter as witness.

Wolf Point Wolves blank Poplar 38 to 0 in season closer

Wolf Point dominated with a 219 to 72 yards edge and 11 of 16 passes for 162 yards. Eleven Wolves earned letters. Bechtel Herman Luck Kaniewski end guard all at season end. Poplar battled but could not score as Glasgow held Havre to a 0-0 tie.

Culbertson Wins Roosevelt County Livestock Judging Cup

Culbertson High School won the Roosevelt County livestock judging contest with 1555 points. Bainville took second with 1222 and Froid third with 1293 as 87 students competed. Richard Maxon led Culbertson with 438 points, Howard Swindle 509, Amos Moore 608, and other top scorers included Endora Piercy, John Lah, Ray Luebke, Anna Knudsen, Margaret Piercy, Eugene Skarie, and David Rhea. Culbertson receives the county cup to hold for a year.

Improved Pumps Demonstrated in Wolf Point by Nashua Inventor

J. C. Cairncross and Henry Halvorson of Nashua visited Wolf Point on Saturday with a hand pump and an electric pump of a new and greatly improved type. Observers conceded merit and predicted winners as the pumps are now being manufactured for a Nashua organized company.

Farm Union Elects Kelly President At Lewistown Meet

The Montana Farmers Union statewide convention in Lewistown closed with John T. Kelly of Castagne elected president, J. Ira Palmer as vice president, E. R. Kindler re elected secretary, and other officers chosen. Delegates approved resolutions supporting farm relief, rural education, Montana made goods, and a milk and cream producers union, while debates over constitutional changes and regional invitations were settled. Extension of the Great Northern toward San Francisco remains a topic amid Southern Pacific opposition.

Penney Co District Manager Visits Wolf Point

D B Johnson district manager for J C Penney visited Wolf Point this week to inspect the In cal Penney store and survey the Wolf Point field. Local Manager Heinze arranged an interview at The Herald office to discuss local advertising Roosevelt county and regional concerns from Montana to the coast.

Masons Visit Lodge At Glasgow Monday

Several members of the Masonic Lodge traveled to Glasgow Monday evening for a lodge meeting. The visit featured the annual appearance of Montana Grand Master D. J. Muri of Helena. Attendees reported an enjoyable gathering with lunch served afterward.

Young man dies in factory accident at Fergus Falls

Addison Hanson aged 24 died at Forenson hospital after a fall from a ceiling hatch while dismantling a Fruit Express building in Fergus Falls. He toppled 18 feet onto ice cake debris and died from a brain concussion. Hanson traveled from Fergus Falls with his brother Marvin to visit relatives and was survived by his father and siblings.

Roosevelt Co hogs place high at show

J Willams’s carload of high grade Duroc Jersey hogs placed third at the Pacific International show marking a third consecutive year with top finishes for Williams. The hogs, from purebred sows, were pasture finished and fed alfalfa, grain, barley, corn and tankage amid feeding difficulties. Shipment handled by Fulton Com Ineson of Seattle and sold to Frye and Co. of Beattie for 11.25 per hundred.

Unusually Interesting KGCX Program Promoted by Judge

Wednesday evening program at KGCX drew praise from Judge Charles Gordon who spoke on station value to Wolf Point and lauded Ed Kdebsbach for founding the Starton enterprise. Hunters bag ducks at Bowdoin Lake thanks to end snap

George Flint, Al Appelgren and Connie Schenkenberger hunted Bowdoin Lake Monday for waterfowl. They returned Wednesday with a good assortment of ducks and Al took a 20 pound ardel gray footh and George a Canadian hanker. They stayed with a bachelor farmer at the edge of the lake and enjoyed a fine outing.
