Community backs Bill Young for state railroad post
About fifty friends gathered Thursday in the court room to organize the William L. Young for Railroad and Public Service Commissioner Club. H. N. Marron chaired, with O Q Stennes as president, L M Clayton vice president, Hugh N Ton secretary, and Fr E Robert treasurer. Speakers praised Young as a capable, square–shooting citizen, noting the need to distinguish him from Leonard C. Young on the ballot. Local and visiting supporters urged wider town participation and recruiting volunteers for outreach efforts. The club plans to enlist communities on this state end, and invites voters friendly to Young to join. Also, the local golf club invited members to play at Fairview on the 18th and Scobey on the 25th.

Census returns received from Supervisor Hggers show preliminary figures for Roosevelt County District No. 13 with 187 people and 40 farms, District No. 17 including Culbertson with 1012 people, 22 farms. Culbertson population not shown separately. Valley County School District No. 22 Lasure 589 people, 1 farm. School District No. 2 Frazer 588 people, 78 farms. An error in last week’s School District No. 1 population totaled 277, not 227.

Severson to Attend Chicago MGM Convention
Clarence J. Severson will depart Salt Lake City soon for Chicago to attend the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Corp national convention at the Drake hotel for one week starting May 15. Special cars from Los Angeles San Francisco Portland and Seattle will join at Salt Lake City forming a train carrying Western Division representatives to the convention.

TenMill Road Levy Up at July Primary
County commissioners discussed a two year ten mill levy for road building at the July primary. Delegations from many localities urged new roads, and officials noted funds are tight. Voters will decide on extending the levy to cover two years to support farm product marketing and regional needs.
One Creighton Finally Jailed in Liquor Case
Ronald Creighton pleaded guilty in federal court to manufacturing liquor possession of equipment for that purpose and maintaining a nuisance. He received 60 days in Cascade county jail and a $400 fine for three counts, plus a suspended $260 fine and 11 month suspended sentence with five years probation on the fourth count. The government dismissed co defendants Henry and Al Becker as to the land violation. Prohibition agents testified the offense occurred along the Missouri river southwest of Bainville. Documents bearing Creighton’s name were found during the raid showing extensive liquor production gear and materials.

Writes Bad Checks Blames It To Booze
Charles Council, undersheriff, brought back A. P. Johnson from Dickinson accused of writing worthless checks. Johnson, 57, formerly of Wolf Point, claims he never had trouble before and says booze caused his actions when lacking funds. More than fifty bum checks passed in Wolf Point, Poplar, Culbertson and elsewhere, amounts from 1.50 to 25.00. judge Turner to hear the case at Poplar Friday.

New City Council Opens Under Swedberg Leadership
The new city council took office Monday night at a joint session with the old council. Mayor-elect Swedberg assumed the reins from Mayor Sienmes. Two new members joined Eli Maltby and J. White, with W. C. Johnson elected council president. Appointments included Jacob Beal as city clerk, Peter Lenz water superintendent, Todd Shamley chief of police and street commissioner, and Dr. H. B. Cloud city health officer. The Wolf Point Herald remains official newspaper. Standing committees were appointed.

Bainville led by 2 points after a tight Big Four meet at Culbertson Saturday as Scobey, Wolf Point and others chased. Two records fell: Anklim of Culbertson set 440 yard dash mark in 4.8 seconds amid the sprint events and Baluville’s Wolf Point mile relay saw a new time of 5 minutes 5 seconds. Results show Lagseon of Bainville won low hurdles in 29.6 seconds with Pugh of Scobey second.

Wolf Point and Culbertson unit of United Infantry will hold the Regiment's Summer Training Camp at Fort Harrison Helena Montana from June 14 to June 18 throughout their initial training period. The camp features a built kitchen and dress ball for each unit with careful supervision of meals cleanliness and food quality. Local organizers anticipate a period of practical field training under camp conditions and the city of Helena cooperates providing entertainment and healthy recreation supervised by a special officer assigned by the commanding officer.

A Grony Falln court heard several cases with notable penalties. Ted Wills pleaded guilty to possession of minors and received jail days plus a suspended term, fines totaling 850, and his wife Olive was fined for occupancy charges. Gen Vinson of Wolf Point pleaded guilty on three counts, getting 60 days, 160 dollars in fines, and a three month suspended sentence with four years probation. The Vinson Rooming house was ordered padlocked for a year, and three drink parlors along with a Bainville confectionery were ordered closed for a year.
