Fire at Froid destroys six businesses in $150000 loss

Fire discovered at 2 a.m. Wednesday in Froid’s main business street burned six establishments including two large general stores a hardware a restaurant a tailor shop and the office of The Froid Tribune owned by A R Butler. The blaze reportedly started in a clothes cleaning shop causing $150000 damage.

Many Inspect New Motor Mart Opens in Anaconda Street

A spacious showroom and garage showcasing new Olds and Pontiacs greeted visitors Tuesday at Camrud Motors on Anaconda Street and Second Avenue. Mrs Lutheran aid served coffee and lunch while the high school band played at noon. Although the Oldsmobile rep could not attend, Atwater Kent radio representative Lester McCaughey demonstrated the radios. Free inner tube with each Kelly Springfield tire offered to shoppers.

Drinking Spell Ends In Murder

WILLISTON ND May 2 Andrew Torguson 50 a farmer 14 miles northeast of Watford City murdered his wife at 1 Wednesday morning by slashing her throat with a razor and then killed himself with a shotgun in a barn. Six children oldest 14 two babies six months and two years old were present. An inquest held. He had beaten his wife recently and faced a restraining order. Drinking and property quarrels cited. Funeral arrangements not yet completed.

One Hundred Planes Stop At Freid

A flight of 100 airplanes will leave Detroit on June 30 for a transcontinental trip and plans a night stop in Great Falls. From there the aerial caravan will proceed to Froid, Roosevelt County, for a noon stop and then to Minot, North Dakota, by nightfall. Delegations from Montana secured the routing after visiting Detroit for the national aircraft show.

Scobey Seeks $60,000 Hotel Project Plan

At a Scobey city council meeting taxpayers urged selling the city hall and fire hall lot to a committee for sale to Mr. Gorham to build a 40 room brick hotel. Citizens pledged over $3,000 to aid purchase of Dahlquist and city lots for the site. The project, with two other local buildings and highway work, is expected to create many jobs this summer as Gorham arranges formal agreements and planning.

Culbertson Student Wins Second Essay Prize

Miss Edith May of Culbertson high school won second prize of 25 dollars in a state wide essay contest on forest industries of Montana for "The Relation of Forests to Watershed Control." Antoinette Curley of Augusta high school placed fourth for "The Influence of Trees on Farm and Community Life." Brockton high school contributor Wilty Larson earned ninth place with "The Influence of Trees." Honorable mentions went to Clare Olson Clinnoh and Myrtle Jackson.

Fifty Students Compete in County Art Spelling Music Contest

The County Art Spelling and Music Memory contest drew fifty contestants from Wolf Point and district schools with eleven Wolf Point district schools represented. Bainville's Gladys Allison won the Art prize. Lillie Rowe Brockton and Katherine Wall Wolf Point Liberty led Art scores. Spelling winners included Lillie Rowe Brockton gold, Donald Larson Wolf Point silver, Gladys Allison Bainville bronze.

Mrs Bert Norby Dies At Bis marck After Operation

Mrs Bert Norby died in Bismarck in the early morning hours of Friday April 27 a few days after a serious operation at the Quain and Ramstad clinic News of the death came as a shock to friends in the community Her husband and family had been in close contact about her condition and the health issues leading to the operation were noted with concern The report from surgeons indicated alarming findings prior to the operation and the family had planned further medical consultation before the trip to Bismarck

Fire destroys farm home of Karl Welzenbach

J B Welzenbach noted the loss of the small residence occupied by his son Karl and Karl's wife. The fire started about 430 am Tuesday, likely from an incubator heated by oil in a leanto. The house stood three quarters of a mile east of the elder Welzenbach home, six miles northeast. The couple barely escaped with little or nothing saved. Julius Welzenbach alerted the family and rushed to help but arrived too late. No insurance was reported.

Clarence Nefager, Vida farmer, has been ill with multiple diseases confining him to bed all spring. A large group of Vida Modern Woodmen Camp 5971 members gathered at Nefager's farm for a feeding bee. They plowed 33 acres, disced 10, and planted 68 acres of wheat.
