Lynch Given Sixty Days In County Jail

Walt Lynch was tried in Justice Moon's Culbertson court on a worthless check charge. A six man jury convicted him and he was sentenced to sixty days in the county jail. Complainant Herbert Ziege of Poplar cashed the $10 check. The case moved from Poplar to Culbertson amid an affidavit of prejudice and venue change. Deputy County Attorney Hugh Marron prosecuted. Bramble and Rucker defended.

Paint Up Epidemic Strikes Wolf Point

The Wolf Point Herald notes a spring wave of painting and redecorating across the town. Camrud Motors, J. C. Penny, and J. Hoffman Coffey fronts were refreshed, with many homes touched up outside or inside. The Greenhouse on Custer Street, bought by J. L. Seglias, shows a notable new paint job, and Mrs. Moore is redecorating extensively.

Knights of Columbus Meeting Draws Crowd in Wolf Point

Last Thursday the Knights of Columbus Council of Wolf Point held a well attended meeting with about fifty local members and twenty five from out of town. W J Kearney and P R Doughterty were elected delegates to the state convention in Helena May 27 and 28 with Rev A J Richard and Mr Reed of Glentana named alternates. Remarks by Rev A J Richard and State Deputy H N Marron followed, interspersed by musical numbers from Ed Krebsbach Stephen Kaniewski and son.

April Freight Sets Historic Record at Great Northern

Agent Swedberg at the Great Northern station reports constant arrival of bridge material cars and says Wolf Point April freight volume surpassed any prior month in the station’s history. He notes the new bridge material did not affect this record, and predicts May will exceed April due to ongoing bridge material re vents.

Delahunt Opens Office Over Front Street Coal Yard

Delahunt has moved into a new office building on Front Street near the coal warehouses. The relocation consolidates operations as the pemrmnt firm expands its local presence and services for customers in the district.

Robbin Store Sold to Anderson and Everson

G. J. Robbin completed a sale of his store to Anderson and Everson, who run Wildrose and Corinth, N. Dak shops. They will take possession mid May. Robbin plans a big stock reduction sale and a summer vacation traveling through Montana and the Black Hills to Glacier and Yellowstone. Anderson and Everson, longtime Wildrose merchants with a Corinth outlet, move to Wolf Point to assume control.

Interscholastic Meet At State U May 8 10

The 26th Interscholastic Meet will be held at the State University in Missoula from May 8 to 10. Six hundred contestants are entered and about fifteen hundred students and several hundred spectators are expected. Events include track and field, debate, declamatory contest, little theatre tournament, state essay contest, high school editorial contest, high school golf and tennis.

Evangelist Jackson Denounces Sin Sermon in Wolf Point

A crowd heard Evangelist V. R. Jackson preach on Paying Your Vows at a Wolf Point revival. The event featured a youth orchestra and choir, with services starting May 5 at the new Pentecostal church on East Main Street. Three services weekly, nightly except Monday, plus Saturday street meetings, begin at 7:45 PM.

Richey Golfers Edge Wolf Point In Close Match

A dozen Wolf Point golfers visited Richey for the first inter-club match played as match play. J R Burgess led with a 71 while Foley carded 84 for Richey. Wolf Point’s Connie Schenkenberger, a 1929 rookie, won six up, and several members posted solid scores despite Richey’s win by seven holes. Next, Richey travels to Wolf Point, then Wolf Point to Williston.

Prof. M. L. Wilson Arrives in Moscow

A group of American wheat farming specialists led by Prof Milburn L Wilson of Montana University arrived in Moscow on May 1 to assist the Soviet grain trust. They plan to transform 5,000,000 acres of unused land into bread factories and Wilson will stay for months to establish a large experimental ration school. Mrs Frank Catlin attended a track meet at Culbertson and visited friends there over the end.

The Tea Tray Named Tea Room by Local Winner

Mrs C C Johnson won a cake prize for suggesting The Tea Tray as the name for Mrs Stone's new tea room. Several attendees proposed catchy names, but judges selected hers after careful deliberation, awarding an angel food cake to the winner.

Frazer Man Held To United States Court

W. H. Witherbee of Frazer got a hearing before U S Commissioner C T Stennes on liquor law violation charges. He was bound over to U S District Court with $300 bail. This is his second time facing a similar charge.

April Temperature and Weather Summary

April ran below normal with several cool days. Frost occurred on only a few nights while precipitation remained light. Seeding finished quickly and, with May showers and warmer weather, planted fields are expected to turn green.

Sheepmen to discuss wool pool at Wolf Point

Northeastern Montana sheepmen are urged to meet at Wolf Point on May 11 to discuss wool pool organization and other industry matters. The effort is led by Wolf Point's Al Appelgren and the county extension service, with early signs pointing to a pool of about 10 000 fleeces contracted.

Froid School Meet Winners Shine At Culbertson

Froid dominated the Big Pour wack meet at Culbertson, earning 35 points to lead Wolf Point with 17, Sidney 16, and Bainville 1. Individual winners include Leslie Beyer of Wolf Point, George Weeks and Dehn Herman in multiple events, with Beyer set for Missoula interscholastic action next week.

Pat Mullis Killed In Railroad Accident West Of Williston

Pat Mullis a well known railroad brakeman was killed Thursday forenoon near Marley Siding about fifteen miles west of Williston while on a work train crew between Williston and Snowden. Eyewitnesses say he likely fell between two cars as the train moved. His body was found between the rails and not mutilated. He was taken to Williston, leaving a wife and four daughters. Mullis lived in Wolf Point previously and was married to Lillian Anderson. The death shocked his friends and funeral arrangements were not yet announced.

May 4th marks shopping day in Wolf Point with Cook’s Ready-to-Wear launching a two week sale on women's clothing and shoes. Robbin’s announces a ten day stock-reducing sale with wide price cuts. The Padt promotes value in boys and children’s wear. Northwest Service lists 98 cent groceries. Coffey offers oval braided rugs at 98 cents. Huxsel Drug Co advertises Sherwin-Williams paint. Roosevelt County 4-H clubs reorganize with growth

Preliminary work shows Roosevelt County 4-H clubs expanding enrollment over previous years. Each club must have five members aged 10 to 21, work on projects such as clothing corn wine potato and wheat, supervised by a leader. New clubs include Pershing with all members in wheat production. Activities feature six meetings per club a tricounty camp July 11 14 a wheat club school near Brockton and county fair participation.
