The Highway Education committee invites high school students to enter the national essay contest for the Firestone University Scholarship worth four thousand dollars. About 250000 students entered last year. essays must be under 700 words and focus on how good roads develop the community.

Farm Loan Assn Elects Officers In Wolf Point

The Wolf Point Federal Farm Loan Association held a meeting at Wm. Pipal's place on March 28 with about 50 farmers. A permanent board of directors was formed including Peder Pederson J. B. Randall Sig Cusker Henry E. Pipal and John Frederickson. Officers named were J. B. Randall president Peder Pederson vice president and Wm. Pipal secretary-treasurer. A loan committee of Pederson Cusker and Pipal was chosen. About 40 loan blanks were taken. The group expects benefits to the community and will meet April 29 at Randall's office.

Sixty Farm Names Grow Toward Seventy Five

Eleven new farm names joined this week bringing the total to sixty and plans call for around seventy five as activity increases. The trend toward branding the ranch or farm is gaining popularity and any missing brand will be added if the required information is supplied.

Poplar Pays Political Debt in County Fair Move

The county fair may relocate from Poplar to Bainville to settle a debt tied to support for Poplar in a county seat campaign two years ago. A county fair committee, including members from Culbertson and Poplar, will decide the removal and seek a board of appraisers, with a decision expected at the next commissioners meeting.

Deaths at South Side Home Amid Diphtheria Outbreak

Two deaths occur within 24 hours at the Joseph McMahon residence southwest of Sand Creek. Miss Josephine McMahon, 17, dies after a brief illness likely diphtheria. Seven year old Harold Harris, grandson of McMahon, dies of a similar illness. Three Harris children sick and moved to a detention hospital. Doctor DeWane confirms diphtheria and relocates the patients to a Northside house.

Visions of 1922 Display at Local Hardware Store

C T Stennes and Bill McConnon organize a 1922 harvest display in their hardware shop. Large piles of premium wheat flax barley and spelt feature, with signs predicting bumper yields. A tractor tank Max wagon with potatoes and a stationary engine rigged derrick symbolize a 1500 barrel measure, plus a new barn and other items promise prosperity for the year.

Lines are barb wire with short connections. project aims to reach Wolf Point soon. Local farmers praise the rural communication effort and expect a pole and wire system later.

Women Work For Civic Betterment At League Meeting

An event at the Civic League meeting in the school house featured music by Glen Thom Dan Staples Marc Nason and Mrs Shipmar plus a Spanish dance by Jennie and Olga Zemo. Rev MeIvor and R J Moore spoke on a municipal swimming pool noting its benefits for all ages and proposing community financial support to make it a reality this summer. Moore outlined rough costs and a 30 by 50 foot pool as a practical minimum and called on cooperation to advance the project.
