Impeachment Trial Of Stewart On At Helena

Charles T. Stewart, Montana secretary of state since 1917, stood trial before the state senate in Helena after being impeached March 3 by the house. The trial follows rules modeled on a prior case, with G. E. Hurd leading the defense and a house managers panel prosecuting. Charges allege personal profit from state insurance, overstepping authority in constitutional amendments, improprieties in funds, employment of his son at high pay, and lax records.

Clarence Severson Seeks Hollywood Part As Travel Ambassador

Clarence J. Severson of the Liberty theatre, a traveling ambassador of films, sends a card from sunny California. He visited S. T. Cogswell and Paul Harper and others, plans a Hollywood trip, and hopes to secure a golf role with the editor. He notes no film name but expects to return around the first.

Minot to Stage Large Automobile Show Week

Rev Roy L Smith of Minneapolis a noted Methodist minister humorist and columnist will join Minot auto dealers in a city wide event March 28 to April 2. He will speak at an afternoon sales clinic on March 34 and attend a dinner honoring Northwest dealers. The region has been placarded with bills and leading weeklies selected for display as part of the trade week.

Scholarship Awarded to Ralph Bjorge for Montana University

Ralph Bjorge of Culbertson, a Lanark corn club member in 1926, won a one year scholarship for attendance at any branch of the University of Montana based on corn club proficiency and show results. The program grants one scholarship per county per division. Roosevelt County received one last year. A state-wide club record summary shows an average member age of 14 with three years of club work. Robins Trapp Boxing Bout Sparks Controversy

In a Poplar Friday night match, Robbins lost by knockout in the fifth to Sammy Trapp amid claims of a foul. A Williston marked copy of the Minor Daily News spurred the Herald to print a Will Rogers style review while Robbins friends protest Trapp as overweight and a theological student pursuing a clergy role.

Indian Tribes Invited To Conference Here

Members of Montana tribes will meet at West Point from April 6 to 8 to plan a constructive legislative program and seek recognition in Washington. The meeting follows interpretation of H R 234 as favorable to handling Indian affairs through state boards and organizations, announced by Robert J. Hamilton, secretary of the Montana Indian Protective Association. Dr A R Klatte left Sunday for a week in Minnesota.

Rodgers Sentenced in 2nd Degree Assault Case

A jury deliberated from Saturday night to Monday morning splitting 11 to 1 on the first ballot. The court imposed a term for second degree assault and the verdict acted as a compromise sentence. The defendant was sentenced immediately by the court.

Mission Talent on KGCX Sunday at Stennes Hall

Plans for a Sunday afternoon broadcast from KGCX feature new talent from Wolf Point Minian Training School including Mrs. Swetx and Miss Nelson performing vocal and piano pieces. Harold Shipman and D. T. Staples will also appear, with a cello solo and cornet piece. Easter and Lutheran church services are slated for later broadcasts at Stennes hall and local churches.

Indian Legislation By 69th Congress Highlights

Washington notes that 77 Indian laws were enacted by the 69th Congress through the House Committee on Indian Affairs chaired by Scott Leavitt. The committee, though not standing, handled five percent of all laws and saw 14 Montana related measures among the 77.
