Oil Development Assured Drilling Begins By June

Local men report a deal for Wolf Point oil development is closed and drilling will begin by June 1 1928. A large lease block, secured through patient effort by Moore Stennes Schoening Williams Yandell Gastineau and others, will enable a deep well test and potential landowner benefits and royalty demand if oil is found.

Plan of the New Farm Credits Act

Washington March 12 The agricultural credits act passed by the sixty seventh congress provides a system of intermediate credit for farm needs. It envisions government loan agencies linked with federal land banks and intermediate banks in each district with up to 5 million dollars per bank. Banks may discount farmers notes from six months to three years and loan to cooperative associations under act terms.

Lease to Local Men in Wolf Point Dome Oil Project

Owners with land for lease face outsiders seeking leases on speculation while local interests back a development plan. A. F. Hood of Great Falls, an experienced oil man, will handle the contract and bring geologists to survey the Wolf Point dome. A heavy rig and 80 to 100 foot derrick will be required to reach 3,000 to 3,500 feet. Lumber contract is held by Farmers Lumber Company for derrick and buildings, with site about six to eight miles south of the river.

Beautiful Life of Sarah M Cooper Ends

Mrs. Sarah M. Cooper mother of Mrs. J L Champlin of this city, died at her daughter's home Tuesday morning March 18 after a short illness bronchial pneumonia hastened by old age. She passed her 82nd birthday November 22 last year and was a long time Methodist, active in church work and social aid. Her generous, God fearing character inspired many and she leaves many friends besides immediate relatives. (Continued on Page Six)

County Offices Remain at Poplar Amid County Seat Contest

Wolf Point supporters claim a 192 vote majority for the permanent county seat and say the Poplar contest is a delay tactic. The court keeps county offices at Poplar pending the contest’s merits with no start date set, while Poplar plans for future action and citizens rally to defend the Wolf Point win.

Demonstration Train to Visit Wolf Point March 29

Northern Montana farmers will tour the Farm Success Demonstration Train in Wolf Point on March 29 with stops at Poplar and Culbertson in following days. M L Wilson, farm management demonstrator, will explain practices from the dryest regions, featuring the twelve horse hitch and home made tillage gear, and a film program illustrating the same principles.

Thirty Pupils Compete in Local Spelling Contest

On Friday evening at 7 50 the local spelling contest will be held in the high school assembly. About thirty pupils from the grades and high school will participate. First prize is 2 50. If receipts suffice, winter will be sent to Froid on March 20. Admission 10 and 2he. March 23 date emphasized. Special numbers planned. A spelling match between southside and northside grades on April 20. Debates on subjects continue. Miss Clayton ill. Marjorie Jenkins in charge. Pierre Taylor returned from Bozeman and spoke at assembly. Dillon won the speaking contest. Rev S Melver to address high school.
