Wolf Point Varsity Basketball In Roundup Action

Wolf Point played without star center Moore who was ill. The team, with center Robert and guard Schreiber stepping in, faced Bozeman and later Bozeman or Butte Central. Wolf Point, district champions, defeated Roundup 24 14 in the opening game and hoped to meet Bozeman or Porsyth Friday.

Washington delegates report success on claims trip

James Archdale Jr and son Per y and George H Connor returned from Washington DC where they represented the Assinniboine Indians of Manitoba. They say Senate bill 141 was signed by the President giving Indians the right to sue the government in the court of claims. The delegation received courtesy from officials. The Harry Johnston family remain in quarantine for spotted fever with Mrs Johnston and junior improving this week.

Federal Seed Loan Not Provided for Montana Farmers

Do W Warburton of Washington says no federal seed loan will be made in Montana this year. The bill in Congress failed to pass before adjournment, despite reports of need in drought affected areas. Montana had a good crop in 1926, which influenced congressional action. A W Warden, Co. Agent.

Corn Versus Hogs in District Court

A Landlord Tenant dispute fills the court calendar as Otto Lien sues Ole Ersland for value of 21 acres of unharvested corn from 1926. Lien claims crop worth over 400 dollars was destroyed by Ersland’s stock while Lien was away in Minnesota. Ersland contends frost, storms, and rot, plus delayed harvest. Trial began with a panel of jurors and was continued.

Fourth Convention Fort Peck Farmers Convention at Poplar

The Fort Peck Farming and Livestock Association holds its fourth annual convention at Poplar Wednesday through Friday. Indian farmers on Fort Peck reservation gain from improved crops and livestock under P. H. Moller. The schedule includes talks by reservation speakers and a Friday banquet at seven o'clock in the Indian school dining hall, with invitations extended to Poplar and Wolf Point businessmen.

Sunday Radio Program Broadcast by Mrs Chapman

C KGCX reports that the program prepared by Mrs Chapman and announced last week will be broadcast Sunday at the usual hour. The Poplar school band failed to perform last Sunday due to transportation issues and it is unclear if they will appear later.

Otto Krause Promoted To Westland Oil Salesman

Otto Krause, recently hired at West land Oil, has been promoted to salesman for the firm. He now serves at Stanley, North Dakota, while Gerald Geer of Sand Creek takes his place at the service station.

Hawkins Named Secretary of State in Montana

Robert N Hawkins of Virginia City Madison county was appointed secretary of state by Governor J E Erickson to serve until Charles T Stewart is acquitted or the next general election. Hawkins has long been chief deputy state examiner and will run the office with no personnel changes expected as the trial proceeds.

Westland Reduces Gas and Kerosene Prices

The Westland 671 Co. of Scobey led by president R. J. Coughlin cuts retail gasoline and kerosene by 1% cents, effective March 10, due to lower distribution costs from a cash policy. The Montana tax refund on gasoline for non highway uses further lowers costs for tractor operators.

Mrs Ross Rinehart Suffering Serious Illness and Loss

Mrs. Ross Rinehart has been seriously ill since March 4. A baby boy born that date did not survive. Her friends feared for several days, but her condition improved slightly. Her mother Mrs Moen of Worthington Minnesota arrived Tuesday evening. Services were held for the infant on Wednesday afternoon.

Two Club Social Planned Cooperation Event

The Commercial club and the Woman's club plan a big April 1 social at the high school gym at 7 30 pm. Activities include a basketball game a spell down a playlet Arrival of Tom and a basket social to raise funds for the tourist park. Auto Owners Warned to Beware Monoxide

A local auto dealer warns owners of the hidden danger of carbon monoxide from engines run in closed garages. The piece stresses that fresh air is essential and that starting engines with doors closed can produce lethal levels of gas within minutes, risking death in the building.

Conference on Farm Economy at Bainville March 31

A. W. Warden announces an intercounty conference on farm economy in Bainville set for March 31 with committee members promoting a data based development program for northeastern Montana. Golf Club Opens Season With New Officers

The golf club held its annual business meeting in March at White's jewelry store. Officers for the year were elected with W V D Chemnan as president J L Darby as vice president and L Rogers as secretary treasurer. A new board includes Rathert DeWane Cook Burgess Barickman. Standing committees were named and dues set at 15 for full membership 7.5 for nonresident and 5 for women. Families are included with membership. Plans for course improvements were discussed as weather permits.

Close of 20th Legislature Ends in Helena

Helena March 3 The 20th Montana legislature vacated the chambers at noon Saturday with senate adjourning as a court of impeachment to try Charles T Stewart for irregularities as secretary of state. The session recessed until March 21 while bills completed overnight were signed. The body receded amendments to agricultural extension and university appropriation bills, cutting 845,000 for Fort Assinniboine and 50,000 for a Dillon dormitory. Governor Erickson has two weeks to act on 89 measures, after approving 88 and vetoing one.

Bainville Banks Consolidate In Northeastern Montana

Bainville banks merge to form Farmers State Bank of Bainville. The First National of Bainville becomes Farmers State Bank of Bainville with W F Rhea elected vice president, replacing Richard Powers. Powers remains cashier. W J Forsyth assistant cashier. Rhea, Powers, and Forsyth will lead the bank.

District Meeting of American Legion Auxiliary Held at Poplar

A district meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary will be held at Poplar Priday on March 18. The morning session begins at ten o clock and the afternoon session at three with a luncheon at five. District President Mrs Pearl Robinson of Lewistown will attend. Local members needing rides are asked to contact members with cars going.

Martin Christianson and Leonard Hagen of Sanish North Dakota arrived last week to start work on the ferry boat White City to prepare for the summer season.
