Frye Co Demonstrates River Bottom Farming Pointing to Untapped Wealth

The Frye Cattle Co on a 5000 acre Missouri river farm near Chelsea station hosted a demonstration of river bottom farming. Fred Fear and county agent A W Warden organized visits by over 200 people in fifty cars to inspect pumping, irrigation, and 3000 acres of fields. The group highlighted vast benches along the river as ideal for converting unproductive land into irrigation potential across Roose and Valley counties.

Grain Dealers Discuss Protein Content at Montana Convention

Havre June 19 Delegates to the Grain Dealers Association of Montana opened the second day with surveys on land producing high protein wheat led by W J Kurlich of the U S Department of Agriculture and F W Bliss of Bliss Laboratories Minneapolis. A resolution backed issuing a price card based on option rather than protein value to ensure fair pricing when grain is bought on protein content. Attorney General L A Foot spoke on Our Anti-Discrimination Law aiming to protect independent buyers and farmers from being forced out of business.

Riley Reader At The Press Church Tonight

The Presbyterian Woman's club sponsors the 8 PM appearance of violinist and reader Charles Riley McCalley at the Press Church. Investigator Here Making Indian Survey Near Port Peck Reserve

Walter W. Liggett arrived last week and will spend about a month at Port Peck to study the Indians on the reservation. Appointed by the U S Senate sub committee on Indian affairs, his survey aims to provide facts for the committee’s Senate Resolution No 79 report. Other investigators are active on reservations nationwide. The sub committee includes Lynn J. Fra zier, and Senators Pine, Thomas, Wheeler, and LaFollette. Nashua votes to issue 12000 bonds for a new electric light and power plant.

A large Southside and Wolf Point crowd witnessed Vida Wolf Point defeating the Southsiders 3 to 0 before rain ended the game in the fourth inning. The contest had been postponed from the previous Sunday and many hoped for a full nine innings when rescheduled.

Visits Opheim Finds Crops Flourishing Despite Rain

Johnson visited Opheim last Thursday and Friday to oversee business interests. He reports the young crop prospects in the Opheim area look promising for a bountiful harvest, joined by his son Donald. Vivid Picture of West Africa Lecture by Missionary Doctor

Dr. Lucius E. Smith a Presbyterian missionary spoke at the Presbyterian church about seven years in Spanish Guinea. He and his wife endured illness and a hospital that performed 72 000 major surgeries with 1900 for tumors. The talk used slides to show the field and future work remains.

Wolf Point Stampede Dates Fixed for July 12 14

At meetings held Monday and Tuesday evenings the eighth annual Wolf Point Stampede was fixed for July 12 13 and 14 a Thursday to Saturday three day event. Plans call for a full roster of performers and new features to entertain large midsummer crowds. Mark the dates in red on calendars and plan to attend as Wolf Point promises a memorable show.

Roosevelt county shows wealth growth from 1927 to 1928 with total property valuation of 18 254 346 dollars. Excluding utilities totals 12 024 471 dollars while public utilities are valued at 6 229 875 dollars. The county increased overall by 704 031 dollars.

Abundant Rain Brings Wheat Hope In NE Montana

A heavy rain drenched northeast Montana over Sunday night and Monday morning, soaking fields and boosting soil moisture. Widespread showers continued through the week, improving crop prospects and fostering expectation of another good wheat yield despite cool, unsettled conditions. An encampment of Indians near town prayed for rain, with rain recorded on every day of the week.

Democrats of the county met at Culbertson last week Thursday evening with Wm. Powers named permanent chairman, B. G. Lunke secretary, Nels Peterson treasurer, and 28 precinct committeemen present. They endorsed J. H. Ashe state senator, John Hurley representative, Albert Lee county commissioner, Herman Dethman sheriff, W. L. Rose county attorney, J. M. Larson clerk and recorder, Ted Danielson treasurer, and Jack Hannon assessor.

The Williston Golf Club announces the district tournament set for the 17th and 18th has been postponed due to rain. If weather allows, the event will be moved to the 24th and 25th as previously announced.

Edwin Meredith Dies Former Secretary of Agriculture

Edwin T. Meredith, publisher and former secretary of agriculture in President Wilson's cabinet, died at his Des Moines home Sunday night of heart failure due to high blood pressure. A lifelong farmer at heart, he published three farm magazines, had been ill for about four months, and recently returned from Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Ossette Party Visits Vida via KGCX Broadcast

Ossette community in Valley county toured to Wolf Point and Vida after coordinating with KGCX manager Krebsbach. Five cars carried Mrs Bain and a touring pianist who joined the Vida program broadcast Saturday noon. Mrs Baird, a former Illinois radio performer, and the Liberty theatre manager Mrs Severson accompanied the group on a holiday outing with a piano accompaniment.

KGCX Benefit Dance Draws Large Crowd

The KGCX radio benefit dance at Vida hall drew a large crowd from the home community and surrounding areas. A substantial turnout from Wolf Point, 300 tickets sold out before the event, indicating strong support for radio fans in the region. Two five dollar prizes were awarded, though the winners' names were not learned.
