Sherman T. Cogswell dies dean of Wolf Point pioneers

Sherman T. Cogswell, longtime Wolf Point resident and Indian trader, died at Deaconess hospital Great Falls at 2:00 a.m. after three weeks of care. Born January 24, 1865 in Adrian Michigan, he arrived in Montana in 1885 and shaped the town’s development as a trader postmaster and benefactor. He helped establish the Sherman hotel and the First State Bank, and remained a respected peacemaker among whites and Indians alike. The Masonic order to conduct services at the Presbyterian church.

E. G. Brownlee Dies at Warm Springs State Asylum

Word arrives that E G Brownlee died on the 14th at Warm Springs State asylum. Mrs Brownlee and children James Gardner Maw headed toward Kansas City to visit elder daughter Margaret. If timely, funeral by Masons will be held Monday afternoon. obituary next week. Julia Flynn recovered a fur coat stolen from her apartment, with most garments missing. Todd Shamey found garments behind chimney of old power plant, believed stolen by burglars, clues sought.

Neighbor clubs golf scramble set for Sunday

Visiting players from thirteen clubs including Glasgow Poplar and Scobey will meet local golfers at the Wolf Point course. All three teams are due to arrive on the eleventh, promising a big day of golf. The course fairways are regrowing after last season’s wear and are being mowed this week for good condition.

Roosevelt 4-H Members Attend 3rd Annual States Club Convention

Eight 4-H club members and two others from Roosevelt county depart Sunday for the 3rd Annual States M club convention in Bozeman. The event runs June 1 through 17 under state leader Charles E. Potter. Attending are George Luebke, Mrs. John Hermansen, Louis Tonys, Raymond Peterson, Alton Olsen, John Miller, Elizabeth Wilde, Gladys Dunn, Ingrid Nessit, Esther Courcane, and AWOW Warden Co. Agent. Also noted is the civic involvement of Mr. Cogswell and Miss Ala Cogswell with local lodges and churches.

Bridge Picnic for Listers and Home Demonstration Meet

Visiting Listeruds Mr and Mrs Join Listerund and Mise Helen plan to depart for California soon. Commercial Club and Lions Club schedule a joint gathering at Rest Haven Park on Tuesday June 28 to honor them and host a community picnic and Home Demonstration program from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Coffee, picnic supper, and entertainments arranged with no conflict between events.

Jury Court Term in McCone County Opens

A jury term of court in McCone county convenes June 20 at Circle with thirty two jurors called from northern areas including Rankin Prairie Elk Baker and many others. Six criminal and eight civil cases are set for trial including horse stealing misdemeanors assault and carrying concealed weapon with trials running through June 22.

Special Election On Funds Is Called Off

City officials announce the special election on transferring airport fund money to the street and alley fund for Main Street oiling is canceled. A new method will finance the oiling, expected to complete before the Stampede dates. The state highway oiling crew will oil No 2 between here and Poplar.

Bainville editor files for county clerk post

Hier, Bainville editor, has filed as a Republican candidate for county clerk and recorder. He previously held the office by appointment and is backed by many friends across the county. He was seen in town with Wm Powers after recent cloud bursts northwest of Bainville.

Mission School Has Fine Reunion At Old Town

A reunion of graduates and former students of the Presbyterian Mission at Old Town was held on June 8 with 65 attendees. The building was decorated in national colors and a noon dinner was shared. Speakers included H T Smith on school activities, Mrs J W Podrigo on early school days, Roe Cloud describing benefits of mission schooling, Joseph Hampton on thrift, and Supt McCalloweh Iago on sewing club work. Mrs Henry Placktall chaired the committee and Joseph Hamilton organized the program.
