New company to complete Poplar test in region

Community Drilling Company formed by businessmen from Poplar and nearby towns to finish Pioneer Oil's test well on the Poplar Oil Dome southeast of the city. Officers named include C L Smith president and T P Danielson secretary treasurer. Board members span Poplar Culbertson Wolf Point and Sidney among others. The group seeks active local support from Roosevelt Richland and McCone counties to fund and lease lands. They aim to reach 3 000 to 3 500 feet and complete the test this fall, hoping a producing well would bring wealth to the community.

Mrs Grover Blake Teaches Women to Fly

Local friends recall Mr and Mrs Grover Blake who summered here four years ago. Mrs Blake, now in Santa Monica, teaches women to fly. A clipping notes a fatal air crash involving Lieut Walter J Ligon and Ivan L Hall. Blake warned of plane faults before the crash. They plan to return by car for Blaichs sixty-fifth wedding anniversary on July 3.

Wolves Win on Glasgow Links in Intercity Match

The Wolf Point club defeated Glasgow by about 5 strokes in an intercity golf challenge on Glasgow links last Sunday. Wolf Point’s best six totaled 482 versus Glasgow’s 514 from their top six, with John Cook leading Wolf Point at 77 and others scoring 79 to 83. Coming fixtures include a July 3 Williston-Wolf Point match with a return July 24.

Neil Rooming House Raided by Officers

Supt. Chas. Egeers of the Fort Peck agency chief of police Shamley and federal officers raided the Neil Rooming House on Third Street Wednesday. Wm. Neil was arrested and taken to Poplar on a liquor charge. Authorities had been watching the place for some time.

Choir to perform at First Lutheran Church concert

A celebrated musical organization will give a public concert at First Lutheran Church on Monday evening June 20. Tickets are on sale at Huxsel's and Norby's. Summer fallow urged for 1928 tree planting in plains

Extension horticulturists advise summer fallow of at least one year to ensure good moisture for next year’s tree planting in the great plains. With favorable moisture now, the outlook is excellent, but without fallow there is risk of poor growth for fruit and Shelterbelt trees. Farmers are warned by traveling salesmen against unproven varieties and are urged to select recommended apples like Yellow Transparent, Duchess, Okabena, Wealthy, Patten, and Hibernal.

Main Street to be Gravelled

The Wolf Point Montana city council voted to surface Main and Anacorda streets from First to Fourth Avenue South with a four inch gravel coat. The city will pay three fourths of the cost with one fourth by local business and property owners. Attending were Mayor Appelgren, Clerk Williams, and Aldermen Johnson, Garden, Te Witt, Swedberg, Geringer and Collins. Minutes approved.

District Fed Farm Loan Meet at Culbertson

The annual district meeting of the Federal Farm Loan association of northeastern Montana will be at Culbertson on June 24. H. H. Piggott acting president of the northwest district and Lt. Gov. W. S. McCormick of Kalispell will arrive from Miles City on the 23rd. About 100 delegates from eight northeastern Montana counties are expected. the Commercial club will provide a free lunch for delegates.

Dist Court Actions at the June 8 Session

The June 8 district court session saw rulings on divorce grants including Maury Twirlels from Frank Pantels and Dorothy E Hawes from William Hawes with joint custody for a daughter. Decrees approved for estate settlements, guardianship accounts, and a final discharge releasing assets. Several cases were dismissed or distributed, including Montana Dakota Power Co. against James Westfall and a distribution decree in the minor heir case of F J Stiens.

Storage dam bursts four drown in Wise River flood

An old storage and irrigation dam on the Wise River near Ana conta bursts after a flood, washing out bridges on Big Hole river and closing the Oregon Short Line. Four people from Wise River are reported dead, with investigation under way. Divide dam held, preventing worse inundation downstream.

A new Listerud Filling Station at First Avenue and Main Street reported a highly successful opening day last Saturday. Visitors enjoyed a free lunch while Dr. C. B. Larsor drew a Hickey ticket for a free ten dollar coupon book. The station features enhanced oil handling gear, including compressed air lifts, a large basement, a modern heating plant, and well planned facilities for both sexes. The building design and driveways impressed visitors with an attractive, out of the ordinary layout.
