Two Drivers In Make Improvements for Fair Grounds

Ed Nichol arrested Art Fishback on Third Street for driving while intoxicated. Fishback pled guilty in Judge Gordon's court, fined 50 dollars, 25 days in jail for nonpayment. Dahley, returning to Froid, crashed near Wolf Point. his party received medical aid. Both cases signal strict enforcement of the new drinking and driving law. Roosevelt County Fair grounds to receive 1929 improvements including livestock barn grandstand fence well and minor buildings. E B Keplinger of Bainville won the barn contract. more buildings and exhibits expected in coming season.

Miss Prudence Gits Visits Wolf Point From Minneapolis

Miss Prudence Gits arrived from Minneapolis Sunday to spend time with her mother and family in Wolf Point. She joined Thomas A. Nelson en route to Wolf Point on business and is an old family friend. The Culver family, former Wolf Point Herald staff, note marriage plans for Gwendolyn Culver Saturday and recall Beatrice Culver’s wedding two years ago.

President Hoover warns against farm relief delay

Washington June 11 President Hoover issued a formal statement saying Tuesday's senate vote delays farm relief and jeopardizes agricultural legislation. He criticized the export debenture plan as not delivering equality, warning it would profit speculators and harm farmers. He urged Congress not to enact the conferees' report and to build a sound agricultural system.

Severe wind and rain sweep Oswego area storms

Severe wind and rain storms from the west and south hit Saturday and Sunday evenings near Oswego. A sharp electric display accompanied the showers as sheds and flimsy structures were blown down. Box cars at Oswego were derailed at a switch and large implement sheds on the N Bar N ranch south of Oswego were damaged.

Empire Builder New G. N. Train

The Great Northern on June 10 launched a new through service between Chicago and the Pacific coast named the Empire Builder in honor of James J. Hill. It replaces the Oriental Limited with fewer stops, uses all new equipment, and employs electric power through the Rockies. Westbound 63 hours, eastbound 61 hours 15 minutes, with limited stops between the Twin Cities and Havre.

George Young Pioneer Buried at Frazer

George Young pioneer is buried at Frazer after dying at the General hospital from chronic nephritis. Rev. S. A. Walker officiated the Panerki service. Born January 21, 1865 in Missouri, he worked with the N Bar N outfit for eight years and later ran a horse ranch near Oswego. He left four sisters and two half brothers.

Senate Debenture Plan Sparks Senate House Clash

Washington June 11 The Senate rejected the conference report 46 to 43 over the debenture plan as Democrats and western Republicans pressed the issue. President Hoover denounced the plan as disaster for farmers and urged approval of the conference report for relief. The House is urged to vote on the debenture when the bill arrives Wednesday.

Wibaux Montana residents faced a deadly cloudburst that swept Beaver Creek through the town at dawn Friday, flooding streets to eight feet and washing out railroad bridges. Three people are reported dead including Rev. A A Sifert and Mrs Sifert. damage estimated at half a million dollars with extensive road and telegraph disruption across eastern Montana and western North Dakota.

Farmers Union Convention Set for June 28 at Wolf Point

Roosevelt county Farmers Union members are called to a county convention at Wolf Point on Friday June 28. Delegates will elect a seven member county board and officers, adopt a county constitution and by laws. A. W. Ricker and T G Crow will speak at 1 30 PM. The afternoon session is open to the public with attendees from across the county. Organizing work in northeastern Montana aims to complete four counties by month end and Glasgow hosts the final convention June 29. More than a thousand new members since May 11 have joined the Union in Daniels Sheridan Roosevelt and Valley counties.
