Summer activity succeeds school with many taking up study

Report notes class of 1924 graduates and faculty plans. Marjorie Jenkins from Malta high school earned valedictorian honors but became salutatorian due to short Malta tenure. Isa belle Jerrow also graduates from Great Falls high school. Many students scatter: Brown teaching at Waska, Taylor off to Miles City summer school, Bainbridge to Fargo, and others head to nursing programs, university studies, or homes. Faculty members plan study in Wisconsin. several grade teachers to remain, with a few assigned elsewhere. Thirty six eighth graders receive diplomas on June 6 with names listed.

Heavy Rain Boosts Crop Prospects Across State

A steady rain began Friday night and continued through Saturday with frequent showers since. The earth is thoroughly soaked and crops of every kind are in excellent condition. Cool weather strengthened grain roots, no damaging frost occurred, and corn, though delayed, is now advancing well. Rain was general across the state.

New date set for Roosevelt County Farm Bureau picnic

The Roosevelt county Farm Bureau picnic moved from June 7 to Saturday June 21 due to rain. The event at the Poplar tourist camp includes band music at 10:00, welcome address by M P Trenne at 11, lunch at noon, talks by W L Stockton or Chester C Davis, vocal solo by C L Cunningham, a Squaw shinney game, and a Poplar vs Southside Sod Busters baseball game at the grounds and park. Concessions will be run by the Poplar public library. County Agent.

Legion Triumphs In Twilight Clash At Westside Park

A sizeable crowd watched the Legion ball team beat the Old Timers 5 to 4 in a twilight game at Westside Park Friday evening. Walter Johnson and Peggy the girl wonder starred amid lineup changes and a late surge by the Old Timers. Rain disrupted plans, next Sunday features Plentywood as the attraction, and turnout was strong.

Eastern Sightseers Visit Wolf Point on West-East Trip

Representatives from major newspapers escorted by Great Northern officials toured Wolf Point on a west to east journey. Indians in costume welcomed them with song and dance while a Pullman Porter quartet performed. A brief local program included a bucking demonstration before the party departed after about an hour.

L L Jenkins from Malta reports George Jewett president of the American Wheat Growers Association will address a Nevada? no Wolf Point meeting on June 19 at 2:00 PM and again at Nashna at 8:00 PM. He led cooperative marketing work and helped establish the federal land bank. He has worked in Washington on the McNary Hangen bill. The talk likely covers agricultural legislation. Stennes Hall hosts the 2:00 PM event next Thursday.

Legion Post Holds Interesting Meeting at Sherman Hotel

The American Legion held a rousing meeting at the Sherman hotel Monday evening with good attendance from local Legion members and several ex servicemen. Topics included the coming Stampede, uniform decoration of street light posts, and a post social feed. Navy cooperates in big Fox picture The Silent Command

The Liberty screens The Silent Command for two days starting Thursday a wartime action drama produced with Navy cooperation. Installing Modern Block System on the Great Northern

Crews work to install a new block signaling system replacing semaphore methods. Electric lights, powered by storage batteries where needed, will mark blocks one mile apart. A dispatcher board will show the block number for each train, improving safety and efficiency.

Big Highway Contract Let To Fitzgerald

A 17 mile Roosevelt highway stretch west of Helena was awarded this week to the Fitzgerald company of Great Falls. The same firm is finishing a four mile section east of here. Wm Powers of Bainville placed the second lowest bid, only 400 dollars higher than the winner.

The Silent Command movie at Liberty theatre

A Rufus King drama about sacrifice in the U S Navy. A captain is forced from command by navy intelligence, betrayed by a spouse, and drawn into a plot to wreck the Panama Canal. The film features Atlantic fleet action, a Caribbean shipwreck, and a life or death sending key struggle as two men fight to save or ruin the fleet. The Liberty theatre screens for two days starting Thursday and Friday.

County Seat Waits On Court Decision

Ruth Suffers Lava Burns On Range Serial Shoot

Ruth Roland and Bruce Gordon were filmed crossing a lava pit for Ruth of the Range when a rope sagged under Gordon’s weight. They were thrown against the pit wall and burned by the boiling lava steam, forcing days off from filming.

Loans Approved Not Accepted by Farm Loan Association

Arlie M Poor secretary of the Roosevelt National Farm Loan Association has discussed loan amounts with the Federal Land Bank Spokane. The bank replies that the approved loan amounts are not acceptable and asks if the terms of the letter are final. John Anderson and Charley Council of the sheriff's office handled official matters Tuesday. Sheriff Anderson returned Sunday from Warm Springs trip taking Joseph Hagen to the state asylum.
