Hoover signs 1.118 billion revenue bill to balance budget

Washington June 6 Hoover signed the 1 118 500 000 budget balancing revenue measure after swift Senate approval 46 to 35. The act lifts total tax take to about 2 4055 million with a 8 percent power tax and strong opposition from insurgents over the provision to be paid by power companies. The bill aims to steady federal finances and raise new revenue. Seventy percent of the vote recorded in the roll call shows party lines.

Harts and Morleys Move to Wolf Point

Scott Hart state highway engineer moved to Wolf Point from Poplar on Thursday. He purchased the John Listerud home. The Harry Morley family is settling in the Nyland house on Dawson Street they recently bought. Wolf Point welcomes both families.

Three youths confess guilt in larceny charge

Friday night of last week the Cogawell store at Oldtown was broken into and over $50 in cash, gloves, cigarets, watches and other items stolen. Thornburg confessed after arrest, implicating Olson and Dietrich. They pleaded guilty in district court to grand larceny and face sentencing June 22. Dietrich, Thornburg, and Olson are 18 to 22, all first offenders. Olson said he planned the robbery for free board.

Wolf Point Farmers Union Elevator forms stock company

A meeting of McCone and Roosevelt Farmers Union units led to organizing the Wolf Point Farmers Union Cooperative Elevator as a stock company with about 75 shares subscribed. Oscar Horsford was elected president, J R Evans secretary, and directors include Ras mus Halvorson Ben Thompson Holger Johnson. The Terminal association of St Paul will transfer 34 shares of premium stock to the new company. The Montana State Partners Union convention is set for Wolf Point October 13 to 15.

Tuberculin Test Reminder and X-ray Plans

McCone residents urged to attend tuberculin testing on Saturday June 11 from 10 am to 12 noon at the office. Those with positive reactions must return in 48 hours. County Treasurer Dwight Lohr reports May current tax receipts amounting to 157 744 80. The May total of all tax collections reaches 170 774 42.

The Wolves beat Bainville Weaneaters 12 to 6 as Brandon & Company led 11-1 at the seventh inning before fielding slips. Weingartner pitched, Martin caught, with Brandon, Jacob, Courchene, Prendergast, Fenne, High Hagle and Quirk in the lineup amid a sparse scoring record.

Plans Formed for Community Pool Cost Estimate

The community considers building a pool with options of a 40 by 80 rectangular design or an 84 foot diameter circular pool. Estimates cover concrete, steel, excavation, piping, drains, and labor, with a price range from 2500 to 2983 dollars. An 800 dollar current fund and anticipated 300 dollars in donated labor aim to launch construction soon. Also notes visit of Mrs. Jack Keating from Seattle and local well wishes.

Man Sentenced for Larceny at Tule Creek Reed Camp

Nell was arrested for stealing articles from the Reed sheep camp on Tule creek. He pleaded guilty before Judge Gordon and was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail.

Bad storm damages Nickwall area Saturday night

Nickwall correspondent reports a severe wind storm between 12 and 2 o'clock Saturday night causing extensive damage. Outbuildings lost roofs, Will Remley's house roof blew off, a wall collapsed, and livestock including turkeys and chickens were harmed. Damage assessed as significant with scattered debris and disrupted sheds.

Senate approves Wheeler bills for school funding

A June 8 Washington dispatch reports the Senate passed the Wheeler bill authorizing 50000 dollars to cooperate with the Wolf Point school board to extend a high school shared with Fort Peck Indian children, and 15000 dollars for completion of a high school at Prader. The bills were sent to the House.

Mrs. Gits Returns From Pleasant Idaho Vacation

Mrs. Louise Gits came home Tuesday morning after visiting St. Maries with daughter Mrs. Raymond Mitchell and son Elmer. She enjoyed western Idaho scenery and time with her children and Miss Myrtle Keckler, a former Wolf Point teacher. Ebner Gushaw attended St. Maries, plans to be a senior next year, and worked well in the woods this summer.

Nashua service man dies at Fort Harrison

Funeral services were held at Nashua Lutheran church for John M. Hovland who died at Fort Harrison June 1 after heart trouble. Burial at Glasgow cemetery with military honors. Survived by wife four daughters two sons youngest 14 months. Born Rothsay Minnesota 1894. Enlisted at outbreak of war served until after Armistice. Family long resided near Nashua in Larslan area. Two brothers also in the community.

Taxpayers Association Holds Culbertson Session

The Roosevelt County Taxpayers Association met in Culbertson last Saturday to elect officers and discuss county political campaign matters. A large turnout included many officials and candidates. New officers are Dave Nelson president H C Bjorge vice president H C Parks secretary. County Agent Warden spoke and several officials addressed the meeting. The group will remain nonpartisan in primaries but may endorse candidates afterward.

Mr and Mrs John Listerud and Helen depart Monday by car for Minnesota to visit friends then move to southern California where Helen will study. The Listeruds were early Wolf Point settlers active in town affairs and many friends will miss them.

Accident at Oswego injures two boys in collision

A collision in Oswego occurred when a car backed onto the highway, injuring two young boys. They are the sons of Joe Hanson and Arthur Neubauer. The exact cause of the accident was not learned.
