Two Drowned in High Creek Near Scobey

In northeastern Valley county on West Fork river between Opheim and Richland, Mrs. Moore of Opheim and her 1 year old son drowned while wading swollen waters at a washed out bridge. The five surviving children endured two days in a wagon with minimal food and shelter before a neighbor found them. The mother’s body was recovered at Scobey. the boy’s body remains missing. The family recently moved to Opheim and faced destitution.

Marron Invited to Speak at International Crime Conference

Attorney Hugh N. Marron received an invitation to address the seventh International Anti Crime conference in Nelson British Columbia June 16 to 18. Judge Charles H. Leavy, Spokane based chair of the Northwest Sheriffs and Police association program committee, sent the invitation. Marron cannot attend due to a ready-made motor tour with his family lasting several weeks.

John Appelgren Loses Valuable Saddle Horse Rex

A valuable saddle horse named Rex belonging to Mayor and Mrs John Appelgren was stolen last Friday night from Stam pede grounds. The thief also took a Miles City saddle from the Klinkermer barn. Authorities have clues but no arrest. Rex is a sorrel horse about 1100 pounds with a C on the left shoulder. Anyone with information should contact Wolf Point authorities.

Ladies Aid at Folden's meeting announced

The Ladies Aid will gather at Bernhard Folden's farm on Sunday, June 5, around 7 PM. Rev. QO Flugstad from Everett Washington will attend and speak. All are welcome. Services will be in Norwegian.

Missouri River Swells in June Rise Threatening Crossings

The Missouri River is much higher than a week ago with warm western weather likely to push it higher. Banks are being cut at several points and the southside ferry landing remains unusable. The Vida telephone line is out and cannot be restrung until waters recede. Southside tower poles have been moved back from the river.

Mayor Appelgren urged cooperation with the city council as committee was named to pursue Main Street surfacing before Stampede. War Heroes Honored In Memorial Day Observance

American war heroes who fell in action were honored in a Memorial Day program at the Liberty theatre, with remaining services held at the city park due to flooded roads. School children led the procession, performed In Flanders Field, and heard Judge D. Borton speak on national strength before a color guard and firing squad.

Senior class of 1927 closes with Lutheran church service

The week opened with the Senior class closing events. On Sunday evening the baccalaureate was held at 8 oclock in the Lutheran church with Rev. A C Johnson delivering the sermon. Mrs G H Flint and Mrs Bert Norby sang solos and the Lutheran choir provided additional music. Class Day followed Tuesday evening in the high school assembly. The program titled A Scene from King Arthurs Court drew a packed crowd.

Lindbergh Lands in London Crowds Overwhelm Airdrome

Captain Charles A. Lindbergh landed the Spirit of St. Louis at Croydon Airport after a 3:30 pm takeoff from Brussels. Crowds of more than 100,000 surged onto the field, forcing police to struggle to clear space as the airman was mobbed on arrival. A dramatic scene of chaos and rescue followed before Lindbergh was escorted to reception.
