Memorial Day Observance Honors War Heroes
Schools, the American Legion, and citizens joined in a Memorial Day program beginning at the high school with a parade to the theatre. Students performed songs and tableaux under colored lights, led by HL Livingston. Veterans spoke including 84 year old Civil War veteran C F Blaich, and attorney J E Rucker delivered the memorial address. The day closed with a cemetery wreath laying and a benediction, reflecting quiet reverence for soldiers from the Revolution to World War I.

Homer had Lightning will take his place. Peter Thompson remains at Riverside as fall Mission meeting hosts Tribal Indians from Minnesota Nebraska the Dakotas and Montana. Fort Peck plans youth and children meetings to benefit all attendees. Peck Ren and family returned from Sacramento California after a coast visit. he calls it his third coast trial and says he is here to stay amid lingering unemployment.

Wolf Point Wheat Shipments Jump Toward 1.3 Million Bushels
P Swedberg, Great Northern Railway agent, reports Wolf Point area wheat shipments from the 1927 crop exceed 1,200,000 bushels. With Spring work done and roads good, farmers market at steady pace and shipments may reach 1,300,000 by July 1. Local crop last fall estimated at 1,250,000 bushels, with high price and protein premiums boosting farmer earnings. The 1927 crop had been the largest by acreage and value to date, but this year’s acreage surpasses it.

NYC May 27 55 runners finished Char lie Pyles cross continental foot race covering 2422 miles ended in Madison Square Garden. Andrew Payne won 25000 after leading final 20 miles on cement floor. John Sila placed second to claim 10400. Philip Granfeie of Mamilles Ont earned 3900 for third. Many finalists expected prize payouts next Friday night during a 24 hour event.

After June 15 1928 Wolf Point will enjoy a reduced local freight rate for car load merchandise distribution. Local Agent Swedberg of the Great Northern says the move follows heavy car load business here.
