Irrigation Plea At Fort Peck Hearing On Aid Funds

Fort Peck Indian reservation irrigation projects are dead without substantial federal funding. Charles Eggers Fort Peck agency superintendent testified to the Senate subcommittee on Indian affairs during hearings in Great Falls. Senators Lynn J. Frazier Burton Wheeler and W. B. Pine sat for the session as the panel explored reservation conditions, leasing issues with Frye Cattle Co and broader education health and morals questions, with hearings set for Harlem and Browning.

Annual Sangerfest at Lustre Ends Day of Song

A large audience from Lustre and surrounding communities gathered at the M B church for the annual sangerfest on Sunday. Work Point residents attended. services ran morning afternoon and evening with a noon picnic. The Lustre orchestra and each choir performed, and free will offerings support the American Sunday School Union.

Riddles Leave For Bedside Of Son

A telegram to Mr and Mrs J W Riddle says their son Lyle is very low and they should come at once. They drive to Billings to catch a train to Albuquerque where he was injured in a perc hure accident. At Billings they learn he shows improvement and the couple continues by car. Latest word says Lyle is still improving with renewed hopes for recovery.

Combining of Wheat Begun in Early Harvest Push

Chas Hall living west of town leads the county in wheat cutting with Marquis spring wheat. His first field yielded five bushels per acre after a late burn. He also harvested seven and just over ten bushels per acre from two other plots. Hall hauls grain to Equity elevator with Eli Maltby’s outfit, which will begin winter wheat work soon. Cutting and combining are expected to surge in the coming week.

Equalization Board Sessions Open In Roosevelt County

Roosevelt county officials have prepared budgets for the next fiscal year and will present them to the board of county commissioners for approval or revision. The board began its equalization meetings Monday and will continue until August 2 to review assessments and hear written, sworn complaints. The second week in August will set the 1929 levy. A tax lien sale by the county measurer is scheduled today at the courthouse, with another real estate sale on August 5 including land in Poplar, McCabe and Culbertson.

Reports Fine Crops In Vida Community

Ed Schillinger farms two miles north of Vida and reports McCone county crops in good condition with yields likely near last year. Heads filling nicely after a discouraging start and combining expected in about three weeks. He praises deep plowing careful seed bed prep and not too heavy seeding.

Ruth Parker to Speak at Presbyterian Church

Nest Sunday morning at the Celulap mourning service the address will be delivered by Miss Ruth Parker. She has been executive at the Indian Mission for the past year and returns to New York. The pastor invites all to attend as Miss Parker’s talk on the teaching of Jesus to interracial relationships is expected to be timely and engaging.

Big Field Day at Brockton Draws Regional Farmers

About 2000 farmers from Montana and nearby states plus international attendees gathered at the Brockton Experimental Farm on July 19. H A Starch outlined cropping systems, while demonstrations showed multi-machine labor efficiency and 60 foot hitch use with five duckfoot cultivators powered by a 60 horsepower engine.

Bremen halves Mauretania’s record crossing Atlantic

The German liner Bremen arrived at Ambrose light New York at 3 02 p m on its maiden voyage from Cherbourg. It completed the crossing in days 18 hours and 45 minutes breaking the Mauretania’s record by 8 hours 17 minutes.

Agency raids in Wolf Point seize four bottles of brew

Three raids by Indian police targeted the Sher man hotel room Neil establishment and Wolf Point Cafe after a noon package left in a booth. A search in the cafe found four bottles of home brew. no intoxicants were recovered in the other locations, per the warrant return.

Memorial: Tom Simonson Killed in Horse Accident at Renrud

Tom Simonson of Renrud area was fatally injured when he fell from a horse near Throwbridge farm. He died Tuesday after brain hemorrhages from head injuries. he leaves a widow, four children, and two stepchildren. Funeral Thursday at Benrud. born 1883 in Norway, he lived in Iowa, North Dakota and Montana before settling in Scobey burial.

Joe Alvarez Sentenced for Disturbing the Peace and Theft

Joe Alvarez, a Macon area farmer, was sentenced by Judge Gordon on June 17 to 60 days for disturbing the peace. Released on parole, he later pawned his coat and, after drinking, entered the City Grill where he stole a $45 money pouch. He confessed to petty larceny, pled guilty, and received additional jail time to serve the remainder of his sentence.

Mrs Larson's Mother Dies In Butte Hospital

Mrs Viewig, mother of Mrs Larson, died Tuesday afternoon at 2 o clock in a Butte hospital after a major operation at Bally last week. Her daughter accompanied the body from Butte to Minneapolis where she met Dr and Mrs Larsen. From Minneapolis the remains went to Chicago for burial services this afternoon. Mrs Viente had longtime residence with the Larson family and leaves many friends.

Bernice Folden Loses Fingers In Accidental Rope Incident

Bernice Folden, 14, daughter of Mr and Mrs Folden of the Southside, suffered the loss of the first two fingers of her right hand in an accident last week. While holding a rope on a key fork she watched the work unaware her hand neared a pulley and was amputated. She was brought to town for medical attention.
