Pick Of The Talent On Rodeo Programs

Rodeo programs feature SHARP Wilson and Clyde Kline with Ray Mitchell as arena director and Cowboy Clowns el Gri veri. Event lineup includes grand entry, pony races, bronc riding with riders from multiple western states, calf roping, rope spinning, steer wrestling, trick riding, and relay races with purses ranging from small to $60 in multiple divisions. Rebekah Lodge Honors Harbo Couple Before Move

After a regular meeting the Rebekahs and Oddfellows gave a social farewell to Mr and Mrs Andrew Harbo who plan to move to Bellingham Washington next week. A long table banquet followed a group coffee service and a warm presentation speech by Mrs A R Butler. Senator J W Schnitzler also spoke. The item notes 165 Roosevelt county students earned eighth grade diplomas this year.

Choir of the West to sing at First Lutheran Church

Livestock buyer J. P. Finch jailed on old counts

J. P. Finch, livestock buyer, remains in Roosevelt county jail under 2500 bonds awaiting a July 18 hearing on charges of issuing fraudulent checks. A check for 885 to Bainville’s John Sands in 1926, plus others to Bainville’s Farmers State Bank, Chester Arthur, and J. H. Herman, totalled several hundred dollars. Finch, who previously bought horses with checks drawn on Moorhead, Minnesota, faces allegations after returning to Montana to buy stock west of the area. He was arraigned before Judge Gordon. He has two underage sons, ages 17 and 14.

City Safer With Secondary Power

The water department, acting on city authorities guidance, has restored the old city power plant to good running order as a safety measure. The old city well is in good repair and the oil engine is ready to pump water or operate city lights if the power lines are damaged.

Browns in Town at Stampede Draws Rancher Couple

Among the Stampede standbys are Mr and Mrs C F Brown ranchers from Cottonwood. They return yearly at their regular spot in front of the old post office building. Charlie grills three or four fat steers into hamburger and fries, while Mrs Brown brews coffee and lemon ade. Neighbors nearby smell the cooking and get hungry.

Two Counties Union Picnic At Roosevelt And McCone Counties

The joint Farm Union picnic at the Missouri river bridge drew a smaller crowd due to northwest gales and threatening rain. Julius Gess chaired the meeting with Presidents Kelly of Montana and Howard of Colorado among speakers. Kroll and Halhot were absent.

Poplar Fourth Draws Monster County Crowd

A huge turnout filled Poplar for the fourth of July festivities with broad county participation. Morning action included an American Legion Jr. game Scobey beat Poplar. The afternoon headline event Poplar vs Wolf Point ended 3 to 2 after seven innings as errors and hits shifted momentum late.

Man Loses Clothes While Asleep In Car

A Miles City man asleep in his parked car woke to find clothing and valuables stolen from the front of the vehicle while he slept in the rear. C. A. Naslund of Poulsbo Washington reported two children stolen from his car. The items included clothing and various articles, but the prized possession was a large picture of his brother's nine grown children family.

Chick Ferguson, former Wolf Point photographer and boxer, has returned from the far north after years of adventure and travel near the Arctic circle. He and his brother are visiting Tioga, the family home, for the Stampede.

Return from Vacation Hints at Kalispell Trip With Family

Fred Rothert returned Sunday from a visit at Kalispell and stopped at Whitefish to pick up Bill Jacobi who joined him a week earlier to visit his brother Chris. Fred drove 526 miles between 6:00 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. crossing the summit when a blizzard plastered the windshield so thick the wiper could not remove it. George Rathert returned with his father.

Serious charge against Packers union aims at meat firms

Butte union leaders in the 165 strong Buttre's Packers Union announce new tactics amid support from Silver Bow Trades and Labor Council and Montana Federation of Labor. They accuse Swift Armour and Morrell meat firms of shipping dressed beef into Montana at lower prices than local cattlemen receive, threatening Montana stockmen and local jobs. Charles Young cites nonunion labor and loss of outlets for Montana stock, warning repercussions for local growers if competitive markets fail.

Lions International State Convention Report From Missoula

Frank M. Catlin reports at the Lions Monday luncheon on the state Lions convention in Missoula attended by about 300 visiting Lions and 200 ladies. Banquet drew Missoula crowds and a rose shower from galleries during the dance. Earl W. Hodges of New York spoke as Lions International president, praised by Catlin for his marvellous talk and delivery. There are 25 Lions clubs in Montana and the order remains healthy and growing.

New Commissioner Attends First County Meeting

At the regular county commissioners session W. Adams of Froid took office succeeding the resigned Andrew Harbo. The board named Bille Young McBride and Adams as members. Meetings focused on routine matters with a July 21 spelling meeting set to review preliminary budgets.

County League Games Tie In 14 Inning Standoff

Last Sunday in the county league schedule Bainville and Culbertson played a sensational 14 inning 3 to 2 tie. At Froid Poplar beat Froid 9 to 8, and Wolf Point defeated Brockton 16 to 4. Wolf Point at Culbertson and Poplar at Froid scheduled for next Sunday.

Wolf Point Stampede Promises Top Rodeo Action

Riders ropers and wrestlers return to Wolf Point for the eleventh Stampede with high class stock, ideal weather, and a loud speaker system. O C Johnson and C T Stennes supervise, Ray Mitchell directs the arena, Jay Cusker runs clerk duties, and Grady Wilson announces. Attendance on day one was strong with many veteran performers, including Howard Tegland, Floyd Stillines, Chuck Williams, and R R Ingersol among 22 bronc riders listed, as competitors chase TR A A points in a Rodio Association of America sanctioned event.

Wedding Party for Vida Berreth Newlyweds

Friends of Mr and Mrs RH Berreth gathered in the community hall Tuesday evening for a pleasant wedding party. Games and singing entertained guests who presented the couple with dishes. Mary Dye contributed a hand made wedding cake and a late midnight lunch was served before departure.

Cliff Cook badly hurt in highway accident

The Cliff Cook family formerly of our town, now living in Chicago, were returning from a visit to Sioux Falls when a gravel stretch caused their car to overturn twice. Mrs Cook suffered severe but non fatal injuries while two sons were scratched. Mr Cook sustained grave injuries with a dislocated neck and crushed spine. He was taken to Chicago in a plaster cast in precarious condition. The accident occurred May 18.

Twenty two steer wrestling contenders enter Thursday events led by world champion roper Rube Roberts with a ten and four fifths second run. Rain Helps Crops and Ranges in Wolf Point Area
