Legion Auxiliary Elects Officers for the Year

The American Legion Auxiliary elected officers for the year at a meeting last week. Mrs. B A Barickman became president, Mrs. Hugh N Marron was reelected vice president, Mrs. Charles Coulter was elected secretary, and Miss Lucy Huxsel was chosen treasurer. The group plans a public card party and a food sale with Legion support for preparations. The organization, formed a little over a year ago, has pursued projects aiding the Legion and independent efforts for ex service men.

Roosevelt County Corn Judging Team to Represent County

Loren Piercy and Delmar Lee son long time Lan ark Corn Club members will represent Roosevelt county in the state corn club judging contest held with the late Corn Show at Sidney next week. Both boys have been in corn and pig clubs for three to four years and aim to excel in the junior contest. Relph Birey also mentioned as an alter.

Legion Holds Peppy Meeting At Sherman Hotel

The American Legion Leonard Dethman Post No. 22 held a snap meeting in the Sherman hotel palm room. Calvin L. Rogers elected vice commander replacing Frank Whalen. Membership shows about 40 percent of 1926 enrolled. A radio program to broadcast via KGCX Vida Wolf Point will be planned by a committee. Regional Northeast Montana conference will be in Poplar next Saturday with many Wolf Point Legionnaires likely to attend. Meetings will move to the third Tuesday each month to permit volleyball.

Wolf Point students may win part of a $50 prize pool in a state contest sponsored by the Montana Federation of Women’s Clubs. Four high school essays on why Montana people should buy Montana Products earn top prizes of 25 and 24 dollars, promoting the statewide campaign.

Northwestern rail merger announced with new operating company

In New York on January 18, President Ralph Budd of the Great Northern and President Charles Donnelly of the Northern Pacific outlined preliminary plans for a large northwestern railway merger. A new company would control stock and lease lines to a single operating carrier that would run the Spokane Portland and Seattle Railway. The Chicago Burlington and Quincy would remain 97 percent controlled by the two northern lines. Further consolidation details are expected after a Thursday conference of executives and a stockholders committee.

Toronto boy dominates Wrigley Channel Swim win

George Young a 17 year old Toronto swimmer wins the William Wrigley marathon swim across the Santa Catalina Channel finishing 22 miles in 14 hours 15 minutes. He is the sole placer among 102 entrants and shares the spotlight with Mrs. Margaret Hauser Miss Martha Staxer and Peter Meyer who abandon near the goal. Prize money totals 25 000 to Young and 4 800 to the two women, with extra funds to be awarded at Los Angeles next week.

Wolf Point Sextet Scorches Malta and Saco In Wins

Wolf Point high school basketball team added two more weekend victories defeating Malta 33 to 6 on its floor and Saco 12 to 12 on the Sacco floor. The regular lineup played both games under Coach Boe. The team enjoyed banquets and dances at each school.

Westland Oil Company Holds Annual Convention in Wolf Point

The Westland Oil Company will host its annual convention of employees and local managers in Wolf Point on February 15 and 16. Poplar city team defeated Wolf Point 22 to 14 on the Poplar floor Tuesday night. Swede Erickson led with three baskets and a free throw. Poplar used two platoons while a large Wolf Point crowd attended the showdown.
