Legislature Adjourns Nine Committees to Inspect Agencies
Helena Jan 17 Nine viewing committees of the Montana legislature will study the finances and activities of state institutions and departments after adjournment to Monday afternoon. Members will attend the wool-crowers convention in Billings as the house and senate reduced sessions. The house discussed a petition from Missoula and Lake counties seeking separation of the deaf and blind from the feeble minded at Boulder. A joint committee will examine the Boulder facility while new measures include distribution of journals and controls on public printing and bulk sales credits. East End still found with destitute deer slayers sheltering family
Officers tracking a deer slayer uncovered a dilapidated 8 by 10 foot houseboat sheltering J. A. Grosvenor and his three children from Norton Kansas. A 26 gallon still and 150 gallons of mash were found in a dugout beneath the dwelling. The family, now jailed on $500 bonds, says they arrived by river last fall and lack basic clothing and supplies.

W. J. Parsons of the United States geological survey visited Wolf Point to take measurements for calculating Missouri River discharge. The project, part of flood control data gathering, surveys water depth and velocity at various points to estimate total flow and future impacts on the Mississippi basin. The survey spans districts including Montana North Dakota South Dakota Wyoming with headquarters and year round stations in Williston and Madison Wisconsin.
