J K Bramble Dies of Stroke at Wolf Point Home

J K Bramble well known attorney of Wolf Point and Havre died at his Edgar Street home at 11 30 a m Wednesday January 6 from a paralytic stroke suffered two weeks earlier He lived alone George Trude found him after the stroke his former wife Valerie Bramble from Parshall arrived to assist a brother W L Bramble from Helena attended the funeral which was held Thursday at 2 00 p m at the Catholic church Rev Father Benedict officiated Bramble had recently embraced Catholicism He left a family roster including brothers J M Bramble W L Bramble W P Bramble sisters Mary Dixon Nan Turner a daughter Ida Burial was in the local Catholic cemetery He was born February 3 1867 near Oak Hill Meigs county Ohio and died just shy of 65 He practiced law in several cities moving to Havre in 1904 then Wolf Point in 1924 later returning to Havre briefly and back to Wolf Point His career included owning the Hill County Democrat and a mercantile business He was a Democrat with Havre Lodge 1201 B P O E as a fraternal connection An extended life sketch appears in Tom Stout’s Montana history.

George Washington Commission Named

Mayor (. P. Swedberg has named a local commission to cooperate with the George Washington Bicentennial commission and arrange observance plans for the 1932 birth anniversary of the first president. The national bicentennial commission plans a year of patriotic activities honoring Washington and other era leaders. The mayoral commission members include Frank M. Catlin as chairman F. H. County Board in January Session

The county board met this week for routine year start business. Dr. H B Cloud won the county physician and poor care bids at 75 dollars monthly plus care costs. A public hearing on February first will consider adding 1000 dollars to the public health budget as an emergency due to unforeseen demand from a death.

Fort Peck lease terms discussed by local leaders

Fort Peck reservation officials business leaders and federal staff met at Sherman cafe to review new Interior and Indian Affairs lease rules for grazing and farming. The group noted 12 month grazing, per acre rates, bonding, and bidding changes may hurt small ranchers, with optimism a modification is possible. Superintendent McCullough plans to seek Washington changes while reserving farming and stock-raising viability.

Guilty verdicts in horse theft and forgery cases at county court

Roy Hanson opens first dang cafe in Hugo Johnson building

Roy M. Hanson, longtime Wolf Point cafe cook, opens a new cafe in the Hugo Johnson building next to First State Bank. The business uses the same name for now and will employ Mrs. Hanson part time. Hanson cites few local jobs and hopes to support his family.

Captain Coll Heads to Decorah for Old People's Home

Captain Coll longtime Wolf Point figure with Rev Tollefson will depart Sunday night for Minneapolis then Decorah where he will enter a home for old people. A sea captain in youth he entertained with ocean yarns in his own language. Eye trouble ended his sailing career over 20 years ago and he later came to America. He is known for a cheerful smile and courteous greet, and friends welcome his move to comfort in his final years.

Old Timer in Town Keeps Golden Wedding in Oswego Area

W H Thornley and wife celebrated their golden wedding Christmas day at their home southwest of Oswego. They settled near Cow Creek Hamblin in 1914 as squatters before surveys. Thornley raised cattle as antelope numbers dwindled across the valley. Church notices follow with schedule changes and an annual congregation meeting set for Jan 28 at 2 pm.

The Roosevelt county 1981 extension report lists field inspections on 3500 acres of Marquis wheat and flax for 20 seed sellers, 31 farmers aided to plant 12 200 trees, 14 600 more trees ordered for 1932, 26 potato clubs enrolled, and a range of projects. It notes 18 alfalfa tests, 19 corm clubs, 10 tillage meetings for 250 farmers, weed control talks at 10 meetings, 6 tests, 18 flood irrigation surveys, 11 stock water reservoirs, 407 acres prepared for extra water, 46 calf clubs, commercial fertilizer tests, veterinary testing, livestock shipping, numerous loans and farm visits, and extensive club and outreach activity with thousands of letters and circulars.
