Dr DeWane's Car Recovered In Crosby Claim

Crosby North Dakota officers received word that Dr DeWane's stolen Ford from his garage last fall is held in Crosby. The man in possession, using several aliases, is jailed in Divide County on a liquor charge for ten months. A wax paper bread wrapper from Dick's Bread helped identify the car with Wolf Point officers supplying numbers. One officer plans to retrieve the vehicle once roads allow. No action against the thief until his sentence ends.

500 Club Entertained at Home of Mrs Tice

Mrs A K Tice hosted the 500 Club on Valentine’s Eve with a Christmas tile game, red and white decorations, and a dainty lunch. Attendees included Mesdames Coleman Coffey Fox Frahm Graybill Hyde Hoel W B Harvey Lovell McConnell Nason Ponder Tewmey Gee McLean Sinnott Elizabeth McLean and the Misses Laurence and Houston. Lincoln honored in public schools Reverend Melvor gave an assembly on being an everyday citizen. The normal training class presented an assembly program with speakers Marian Walter Hazel Sommars Flora Walter Elsie Leoppky Elizabeth Brown Dorothy Dillard. The State of Mind poem emphasized positive thinking and effort.

Legion Post Holds Important Meeting

Leonard Dethman Post American Legion met at Marron and Foor office Monday with Commander A M Foor presiding. A four way referendum was sent to a three member committee led by H N Marron to draft resolutions. A St Patrick's Day dance was approved with A M Harvey and Wm Jacobi named to handle arrangements. A shift to a new organizational form was discussed for future meetings and proceedings. Commander Foor attended a Culbertson meeting with state officials of the Montana National Guard. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Fred Buettner on Sunday Feb 9.

Splendid Hallowell Concert At Knights Of Columbus

The Hallowell Concert Company under Knights of Columbus auspices gave a fine Wednesday program to a large audience. A dance followed the concert and Dan Staples, local public schools instrumental instructor, played clarinet after two members were lost recently.

Baby Girl Taken From DeVaney Family

Emogene Doris DeVaney infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. DeVaney of the northeast region died at a local hospital on February 14 after a 19 day illness that began with bronchitis and tonsillitis and ended in pneumonia. Born August 7, 1921, she was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery after services at the Lutheran church led by Rev. Hendrickson. The parents and community extend sympathy in their bereavement.

Haney to Speak at Two Farm Meetings in Roosevelt County

International Harvester extension agent J G Haney will visit Roosevelt County March 3 and 4 for two farm meetings. He will speak at Wide Awake on March 3 afternoon, and at a western site in the evening. March 4 visits include Culbertson in the afternoon and Pioneer or Lanark in the evening. Haney, a practical farmer, uses charts based on long-term records to support diversified farming. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Thomas Callahan on February 11.

Cooperation Talks Between Whites and Indians on Reservation Grazing

A February meeting at the Commercial Club brought stockmen and Indians together to discuss grazing fees and allotment disputes. The group urged cooperation to curb outside stockmen, with Indians favoring a $1.00 fee for fair distribution and continued settler participation in ranching. A six member committee was appointed to formalize the plan, with Indians to present at Chicken Hill on the 20th.

The Firemen's Ninth Annual Ball drew a large crowd and netted more than previous years. Finances will be published later, with expenses still being totaled. Officials thank local business people and the public for support. a big Legion dance is planned for St. Patrick's Day.
