Kearns Boy Given Ten Year Term

Harry Kerns 18-year-old farm boy was sentenced to 10 years in the state penitentiary by Judge John Lowe after a Williston district court conviction for causing the Todd train wreck. The wreck killed an engineer and a fireman and destroyed 14 box cars of grain and merchandise. Craven, his attorney, said an appeal and new trial would be sought. Kerns is released on a $5,000 bond pending the appeal.

County board awards printing contract without bids

County commissioners acted as Santa Claus by awarding a two year county printing contract to Jerome of the Poplar Standard without bids, despite a rival bid from the Wolf Point Herald. The Bainville Tribune notes this is the third consecutive noncompetitive award, urging bid bidding and taxpayer protection.

Former Postmaster Held on Embezzlement Charge

Charles M. Hanson 50 former Wolf Point postmaster is jailed in Cass County awaiting transfer to Butte Montana to face a federal embezzlement charge of 2261 dollars. He waived examination before U S commissioner R E Hopkins and remains held on 2500 dollar bond after arrest in Minot on a fugitive from justice warrant.

Valley of Silent Men film shot in Canadian Rockies

Frank Borzage and Cosmopolitan Productions filmed The Valley of Silent Men in the Canadian Rockies with Alma Rubens and Lew Cody. They lived among the Stoney and along the Kipewa river, spending twelve weeks shooting amid Banff Alberta scenes and glacier climbs for the Liberty theatre engagement.

Wolf Point Wins In First Round In County Seat Battle

The Roosevelt County hearing over a restraining order to keep county offices in Wolf Point opened with a ruling favoring Wolf Point on the burden of proof. The judge set December 20 for a permanent injunction hearing and limited the case to seven precincts in Wolf Point and Bainville.

Wolf Point High junior class stages Safety First comedy

The Wolf Point High School junior class presented the farce Safety First at the Liberty theatre. The all star cast performed professionally and the large audience enjoyed entertaining interludes between acts. Proceeds fund school activities. Deaths Touch Wolf Point Family During Holiday Week

Mrs. Joh Appelgren died after an operation in Minot. Born 1894 in Litchfield, she lived 16 miles north of Wolf Point since 1920 and recently left the local phone office. Funeral services were held at Wolf Point with Lutheran rites and interment in the old cemetery.

Mrs Margaret Brown dies after brief illness at Conrad home

Mrs. Margaret Brown mother of Mrs Roy Conrad died at the Conrad home after a ten day illness with intestinal pneumonia as the cause. She was 54 and active in the Methodist church. The funeral and burial in Wysox PA followed, beside her husband who died two years earlier. She had been living with Mrs Conrad since his death.
