Great Northern to push Montana Eastern Railroad project
The Great Northern filed with County Clerk Delia Marshall articles of incorporation for the Montana Eastern Railroad to build a 315 mile Montana line from Lewistown east to Fairview then across North Dakota to New Rockford, linking with its main line near New Rockford. The plan includes a companion route from Fairview northeast to a point on the line.

Burglars Use Flour Muffler at Treasure State Elevator
Burglars blown open the office safe with dynamite at the Treasure State elevator on Wednesday night. No money was in the safe but a billfold with papers of value to manager James Alrick was taken. Grain storage tickets were untouched. about twelve 50 pound sacks of flour and blankets muffled the blast. No clues or fingerprints found as burglars wore gloves.

Two Boys Die in Clark Farmhouse Fire
Poplar Aug 26 Two nine year old boys sons of George Wallett and Ben Clark died in a house fire at the Clark farm about 1 am. The Wallett child died after transfer to a government hospital. The Clark boy’s funeral was held at the Presbyterian church with arrangements for the Wallett boy delayed due to locating his father.

Final Chapter in Smith Serial Ends in Montana Court
Finley Smith of Poplar faced Judge Charles Gordon on an assault charge. After a series of legal twists including a Sunday sentence deemed void, a jury found him guilty with a ten day jail term and a $50 fine. A stay was granted to allow an appeal, with bond and papers due by Tuesday morning. Also note Minnesota man J A Vuanthyke of Coleraine was in Wolf Point to inspect land and is related to H Walter Van Dyke, a Coleraine junior college faculty member.

Airplanes are ready for the McCone County Fair and dedication of the new fair grounds at Circle, Montana. Sept 6 and 7 will feature afternoon and evening programs with music by the Circle band. The fair association offers record prize money across departments. Livestock barns, cattle, sheep and hogs, will be filled. Auto Crash Leads to $150 Damage Payment
A car driven by Alfred Akjav Tont of Warknouth damaged the Brickson vehicle near Poplar. Mrs Erickson and her child were unharmed though the damage was extensive. Sheriff questioned Skjeviand and he admitted paying $150 to repair the other car to avoid drunk driving action. No action under drunken drivers law yet.

Car TURNS OVER On West Highway
A Chrysler owned by George Forbes of Malta overturned on the west highway near Chorley Hall's place on Monday forenoon. Five occupants escaped with minor injuries. A younger passenger aboard the Chrysler allegedly tried to brake and accelerate, causing the vehicle to veer, roll through a ditch, and land on the embankment. Fred G. Miller and Everett Uishafer in a smaller car were grazed. witnesses estimate 60 mph for the Chrysler. Sheriff John H. Anderson found no blame on the smaller car’s driver.

Highway Association Holds Annual Meeting At Malta
The Theodore Roosevelt Highway Association of Montana held its annual meeting in Malta on the last Monday. Representatives from eight of ten counties attended with about 600 members present. President Moss of Whitehall presided with Al Jonson as secretary. Notables Scott Leavitt and W. B. Warren of the Montana State Highway Commission attended. Delegates from Romewell and Wolf Point regions participated. Plans were made to raise 2500 for ongoing work and a Roosevelt Pass highway project nears assured progress. Congressman Seagitt urged the Forestry Service to erect a forest entrance arch and invite a Roosevelt son to speak at dedication services. Officers were reelected: President Moss, Secretary Jordan, and Director W. J. Young.

The City of Sanish struggled past temporary bridge piles on the Missouri as river levels run low. Slausson, captain and sole crew, notes Mississippi lower than Missouri and has touched sandbars but was not harmed.
