The County Princess race tightens as 12 days remain until the August 31 6 30 p m deadline for ballot casting. Votes must be delivered to The Herald office or Wolf Point post office. The final issue may or may not publish the winner. Candidates Madaline Strachan Vera Smith Hedwig Tessman Elida Smith lead the field with Strachan ahead 10025 to 4325 and 1900 and 500 respectively. Temporary road to ferry improvement urged by county
Heavy traffic of grain haulers and vehicles bottlenecks at Wolf Point ferry as a rough temporary road across the sand and timber hampers harvest. McCone county commissioners, led by Thomas Horsford, secured rights of way and will start grading a new route from the ferry landing to the highway, with work to resume immediately to create a longer dirt road that will improve with use.

Statewide Wheat Crop Forecast Sets Record in Montana

Owing to the excellent range this season cattle are ready for market earlier. Prices are good now and many farmers are turning off stock. On the cattle train Thursday W A Rogers sent five carloads to South St Paul market, Ray Mitchell one car to South St Paul, Max Cooper five carloads to Co L Kaye Co of St Paul, L P Moore of Fairview one car, B N Taylor one car of horses to the Minnesota Transfer. A Mr Bossard of Fairview and Mr McGowan of Miles City were here this week picking up sheep for market and fall feeding. Mr McGowan bought 1600 head of sheep west of here at Chinook Malta and Glasgow, and Mr Bossard expected to get a carload or two.

Vida Phone Service Resumed After Delay
After a long delay and heavy expense the Vida phone line is again across the river in good shape and service is resumed. The high water caused by the Jyne ring cut away the banks. The South side tower ported to be taken down. The towers on both sides were moved to the present site of the ferry crossing and put in substantial style.

County levy cut by five mills at commissioners meeting
