Booze Joints in Hard Luck and Federal Raids

U S deputy marshal arrested Jack Yellowhawk at Poplar on a fugitive warrant from Fargo for Mann Act violation. Yellowhawk, held on $8000 bond, is jailed awaiting transfer. Federal agents raided the Dorr rooming house in Wolf Point, arresting Tom Dorr and seizing bottled evidence, with Dorr held on $200 bond. A still operation south of Poplar yielded mash and moon, awaiting arrest for the owner.

Destructive hailstorms hit Mc Cone county and area farms

A severe hail storm last Friday night and Saturday damaged or destroyed crops on farms across Mc Cone county from north of Hamblin to near Circle. Crops on Nasby, Funk, Carr, Olson, McNett, Anderson, Artz, Martinson and others were harmed. Artz harvest was partly complete. Similar hail affected Hinsdale, Nashua area, Culbertson vicinity, and the Reservation northwest of Culbertson with widespread field losses.

Staples To Conduct Bands At Valley City

Mr and Mrs D T Staples and their children return from Glacier Park where he played with an orchestra. He has accepted a post in Valley City North Dakota to conduct three bands. The move brings a large salary increase. Mrs Staples and children will stay two weeks here before joining him.

Water Shortage Jeopardizes Great Northern Engines

The Great Northern railway faces a water shortage due to wells near the roundhouse failing. The system has no pipe connection to the reservoir west of town. A division official met with the city water department to arrange limited daytime water supply.

W. C. Bruce To Manage Grain Growers Elevator

The Grain Growers elevator at the end of the row rises to full height as finishing work proceeds. W. C. Bruce from Larimore North Dakota will be the manager and buyer, having rented a home and moved his family here. George T. Murray, district man for the Grain Growers association, makes Wolf Point his headquarters and oversees the association’s business in this part of the state.

Leonard Wood Dies in Boston

Major General Leonard Wood former governor general of the Philippines died at Peter Brent Brigham hospital in Boston at 1 20 am after an operation. A bulletin from Dr Alexander Lambert said the operation was for a recurrence of a skull bone tumor. Wood had been treated for a hernia in January and had come east for treatment. Burial will be at Arlington with full honors.

Hardies Enjoy Motor Trip To Washington

W J Hardie Mrs Hardie Iris and Evelyn returned last Friday evening from a motor tour to western Washington. They visited Herbert Hardie near Port Angeles and viewed the Pacific fleet. Herbert runs a poultry raising business with 1900 hens yielding 600 to 700 eggs daily at Port Angeles. Washington and Idaho highways impressed Mr Hardie, who noted better roads via Wallace Idaho and Missoula Montana route. Mrs Max Legge joined at Chinook and returned home.

Glenn LeRoy Wilis of Opheim and Clara Georgiana Jordan of Glasgow were married by Judge Charles Gordon on August. Also noted is the marriage of Daniel Burshia and Helenor M. Kennedy, both of adjacent towns, conducted by Judge Gordon on an August date.

Swets Return to Arizona After 3300 Mile Drive

Mr and Mrs John W Swets former teachers at Indian Mission school Oldtown arrive back after a 3300 mile motor trip across the middle west. They bought an Olds sedan from Camrnd Motors delivered at Minneapolis and praise service and economy. With Oldtown school closing, Presbyterian Board of Home Missions plan to transfer them to the Ganado Arizona Indian school. Wolf Point residents express regret at their departure. they will stay about a week before heading to Arizona.

Frost Hits Parts of Canada Farm Regions

The frost damaged crops in parts of Canada, with severe impact on vines beans potatoes and corn in Daniels and Sheridan counties and heavy losses to wheat in Saskatchewan. Prices moved up with September wheat rising 6 cents and cash wheat 2 cents while local prices fluctuated from 1.32 to 1.31 dollars.

Great Northern to close shops at four terminals

Reports from authentic sources say the Great Northern will close its railroad shops at Havre Devils Lake Dale Street St. Paul and one more Minnesota point. Some workers will transfer to other terminals. Great Falls may benefit from Havre shop closure.

Oldtown Mission School Closes as Schooling Ends

Otto Lund Injured By Combine Harvester

Otto G Lond was injured while cranking a combine harvester on duty when the engine backfired striking him under the eye and breaking two facial bones. He was taken to Minot hospital under Dr McCannel and returned home by Wednesday, with rumors of more severe injuries denied by his condition.

J R Burgess Plays At State Tournament

Dr J R Burgess of the local golf point attended the state golf tournament in Great Falls. About 15 top players entered. Burgess survived preliminaries and qualified among the 16 lowest cards. Bennett of Great Falls won medalist honors with 76. Marron fired 70 on the writ Point course. Kirkwood, famed trick shot artist, plans an exhibition at Glendive on August 15.

Warren Carl reported seeing two Walking Medicine horses killed near Oswego during a Sunday afternoon thunderstorm. The incident occurred around three o'clock as the storm swept through the area near Oswego.
