Indian Department Head Visits Fort Peck Reservation

Commission Chas H Burke of Pierre 8 D appointed by President Harding to head the Indian department visited Fort Peck and met with the Wolf Point sub agency. He heard grievances from prominent Indians on land appraisals revenue sources and road and telegraph line practices. He defended policy, urged cooperation, and predicted a fair administration, with Supt. Kitch chosen for proven ability.

Reach Agreement on Threshing Rates at Bainville Meet

At a Bainville gathering for farmers and threshermen a committee of five from each side set threshing prices for fall. Farmers favored 14 cents wheat, 9 cents oats, 10 cents barley with cook car. threshermen pushed 16 cents wheat and rye, 10 cents barley and oats with cook car. No hourly rates. daily limits set at four dollars for men and six dollars for man and team. Oscar Nelson re elected president. John Dunbar secretary. A cost study committee will report next.

Judge Charles Gordon and Belle Buckman wed in Great Falls

Judge Charles Gordon and Belle Buckman were married at 3 00 PM August 9 by Judge Wilson in Great Falls. They traveled there on No 1 Sunday and returned as husband and wife this morning. Both are well known locally and plan to set up housekeeping soon.

Trash burner built on street side by E L Shipman

E L Shipman constructed a concrete trash furnace on the south side of the alley at the north end of a lot owned by J F Cook in the east half of Block 13. The project faced concerns over safety devices on the north side of the street.

Garfield County Seeks Outlet For Her Grain

Charles P. Cotter assistant attorney general of Montana reports Garfield county farmers face long hauls for 3 000 000 bushels of wheat. Plan to ship via Missouri river barges to Wolf Point and build an elevator to load Great Northern cars faces finance and navigation hurdles. Some wheat is already hauled to Miles City.

Indian Boy Suffers Broken Leg In Street Accident

Lonnie Weeks about ten is struck by a Ford driven by a young Vinson while crossing Main and Third. The car’s steering problems caused it to ram a concrete guide sign, breaking both bones above the ankle. He received treatment from Dr. DeWane and is progressing. City lawmakers passed an under sixteen driving ban after the incident.

P. R. Trail Now Marked Across State

Stennes and Blake report Powder River Trail in good condition marking from Canadian line to Buffalo Wyoming. They completed 146 miles in seven and a half hours with some gaps pending marking north of Scobey and south of Miles City. Wolf Point finished marking from Scobey to Circle as work continues.

July drought slashes forecast yields with 52 million bushels less wheat and large cuts in corn oats and potatoes. Wheat price jumps to about 1.40 as Great Northern freight cars rush to move grain. First New Wheat Weighs 64 Pounds at Wolf Point Elevators

L A Jacobs of Vida delivered the first new wheat to Phil Dougherty at the Wolf Point Grain Company elevator. It graded No 1 and weighed 64 pounds per bushel. A sample shows it clean plump and of fine color. Jacobs threshed only a small portion of a 60 acre field, but expects a large yield.

A. K. Gulhaug owner of Wolf Point Studio plans extensive travel around Wolf Point and nearby towns to photograph harvests threshing and farm views. He aims to cooperate with commercial clubs real estate dealers and newspapers to advertise Montana’s productive soil through a large photo collection.
