Threshing immature grain cited as loss to Montana farmers

State college extension men grain buyers and combine harvester salesmen met in Sherman to push an educational campaign against harvesting grain with excessive moisture. The plan, led by M L Wilson, urges moisture testing before harvest to prevent lowering grain grade and financial losses.

Local People Visit Regina Exposition

Wolf Point residents and nearby people toured the Regina Exposition this week. Reporters described fine farms and parklike farmsteads in Wilcoxen district where summer fallow is used. Hundreds from northern Montana and North Dakota attended after extensive advertising. A large crowd bought gas and received a quart of oil each.

Farm training the best kind for Montana youths

Evan W. Hall of Miles City, agricultural agent for the Milwaukee railroad, told a Smith-Hughes conference that better trained Montana farmers are more valuable than outsiders. He praised state agricultural education and urged focus on local conditions to prepare youths for successful farming.

Fair Manager Urges County Exhibits At Montana Fair

W. F. Casey, secretary and manager of the Montana State Fair, toured the city to promote the fair. He predicts the best state fair yet, thanks to fine crops, and urges east-end counties to prepare samples for shipment. The fair will handle county exhibits after receipt, and Colonel Charles Lindbergh is billed to attend for two days as a top attraction.

Montana awards 73.6 miles of highway and five bridges

Helena July 29 Montana's State highway commission opened bids and awarded contracts on 73.6 miles of new highway construction and five bridge projects totaling 595,030.26 dollars. The lett ing includes 10 road jobs in Rosebud Powder River Pondera Roosevelt Sweet Grass Park Madison and Silver Bow counties worth 553,355.32 dollars and five bridge jobs in Rosebud Pondera Roosevelt Sweet Grass and Park counties totaling 41,674.94 dollars. Next month a public meeting will review five projects costing about 250,000 dollars with contracts to be awarded for surfacing work.

Increasing Volume of New Wheat Marketed

The first load of new wheat marketed in Wolf Point arrived July 28, winter wheat harvested by Nis Refslund of the Southside. Elevators receive wheat daily, mostly winter variety. The first spring wheat load was hauled from Charlie Hall farm two miles west on August 4, bought by Frank Bannister. Hall wheat is durum, cut with a binder and threshed traditionally. Early indications suggest yields around 2 to 3 dust bushels per acre.

Ed Sehfilfiger, U. S. Weather Observer, Vida, reports July precipitation at 1.26 inches. Winter wheat fields mostly bundled or stored, yielding 25 to 30 bushels per acre. spring wheat ready for tinder and expected 15 to 25 bu per acre. Summer fallow boosts output, fall plowing lowers it. Flax and corn progress well. potatoes good. Cool weather needed to finish the crop.

Tom Kelly and his wife Mary become new partners in the hardware and furniture business, continuing operations after July 29. J. W. Kelly and Mrs. Kelly retire. The firm, formed in 191%, was a landmark at Main and Third. The retiring pair will be replaced by the couple, while other family members assist.

Mrs John B Erickson wife of the governor has accepted the invitation to chair the Montana Sponsorship Committee for the National Radio Audition. Auto Accident Involves Lustre Family Near Frazer

A 9 year old Peter Fast suffered a skull fracture and remained unconscious until Wolf Point hospital arrival after a collision Sunday morning between a Chevrolet truck driven by Ferdinand Funk of Larslan and a Dodge sedan driven by Henry G. Fast of Lustre. The three Fast children and the Funk family were treated for cuts and bruises. the four other occupants were cared for at the Thiessen home.
