Would-Be Gun Man Gets 90-Day Sentence

Albert Kennedy a young man of Indian or part Indian blood was arrested by Chief Shamley and brought before Judge Gordon on a charge of carrying concealed weapons. A Colt 25 Automatic was found on him. Kennedy known as a would be bad man, had troubled officers previously. County Attorney Marron prosecuted and Judge Gordon sentenced him to 90 days in the county jail.

Bob White Moves to New Location in Wolf Point

R J White's jewelry store relocates to the N P Walters building recently purchased, replacing the Owl cafe. The refitted space will be large and attractive with new fixtures. The rear houses living quarters and a garage. Bob White, a veteran jeweler, also farms 300 to 400 acres and runs a mail order business serving nearby towns.

Spring Highway Work Getting Under Way

County commissioners and state highway engineers with County Surveyor Carey oversee preliminary tasks for county projects this year. Delegations from Froid and Culbertson met with officials at Culbertson to discuss right of way matters.

New City Scale Ready for Use at City Hall

Contractor Howe installed a new ten ton scale to replace the old city hall scales. The high class scale offers double capacity and up to date accuracy with a self-register beam. Local officials tested it and found it accurate. A state inspector’s letter authorizes Clerk Williams to use the scale pending the next local inspection. The scale ordinance is in this issue of The Herald.

KGCX to Air Rural Markets News From Vida Studio

Radio station KGCX announces a new tri weekly feature for rural listeners. Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 12 30 and noon market reports and news items will be broadcast from the Wolf Point studio with musical numbers from Vida. An earlier attempt was blocked by a telephone line break.

Profs Win Tight Volleyball Clash at High School Gym

A three-team volleyball round at the high school gym ends the season with professionals, business men, and clerks. The pros beat the clerks, then the businessmen swept the clerks, and the final pro matchup vs the businessmen was decided by one point. A lunch plated by home economics girls accompanied the trophy. Players included Marron, Johnson, Boe, Dr. Burgess, Dr. De Wane, Livingston on the pro team. Cook, Switzer, Wigtil, Camrad, D. C. Johnson, G. H. First among businessmen.

Broadcast dedication at First Lutheran church Wolf Point

The First Lutheran church of Wolf Point will broadcast dedication services by remote control from station KGCX Vida. The first service is at 10:15 a.m., steady at 11:00 a.m., third at 2:30 p.m., and last at 7:30 p.m. Clerks listed include Chapman, Cal Rogers, Naylor, Lovell, Wamsley, McNeil. Clean-Up Week Proclaimed by Wolf Point Mayor

Mayor J H Appelgren proclaims May 2 to May 7 as Clean-Up Week urging residents to remove rubbish and ashes and send debris to the dump grounds west of the old cemetery north of the Great Northern tracks. He stresses health, cleanliness, and civic pride for a healthier city.

New State Butcher Law Enforced With Penalties

Sheriff John Anderson received state livestock commissioner notice of the new butcher law from the last legislative session. It tightens meat inspection with penalties, outlines license fees of 5 dollars for dealers with fixed businesses and 100 dollars for meat peddlers, requires whole hides to be inspected and stamped, and mandates inspection certificates. Beef for own use is exempt. violations carry fines from 100 to 590 dollars and possible jail. act effective June 1, 1927.

May 16 Date Limit For Car And Truck Licenses

Montana Radio Stations Receive Federal Permits

The Federal Radio Commission announced that KGCX and KGCN Vida along with FRB Havre KUOM Missoula and KGEZ Kalispell were granted temporary permits to maintain service after April 24. Over 200 stations nationwide received permits as part of the preliminary power and wave allocations.

Commissioner Leeson Involved In Nasty Car Spill

County Commissioner George Leeson, known for racing incidents, skids off the road near the town edge Friday evening while returning home. His car slid into a ditch and could not be freed until the next morning when nine men and a county caterpillar machine pulled it out. No injuries reported beyond damage to the vehicle and Leeson’s reputation as a driver.
