Local League Opens May 1st With Eight Clubs

Oliver Brandon of the Wolves attended a Brockton meeting where an eight club County league schedule was set. Bainville Froid Cuthbertson Brockton Poplar Wolf Point Vida and Medicine Lake will field teams. No salaried players. zones determine eligibility. Vida Pioneer Simon Walsh Funeral Monday

Funeral services for Simon P. Walsh were held Monday at the Catholic church with a requiem high mass. Burial followed in the local cemetery instead of Minnesota as planned. Walsh, born February 12 1878 in Northampton Massachusetts, was 54 and survived by his widow Ethel Garber of Argus Indiana, his father in Slayton Minnesota, two brothers and a sister. He homesteaded in Vida nineteen years ago and later served as a Great Northern special agent at Bowdoin before returning to his land and community life.

Land Sale Surpasses Appraised Value in McCone County

A Wednesday land sale in McCone County sold 37 811.36 acres to fourteen buyers for a total of 20 508 91 dollars, above the appraised value by 837 10. Major buyers were Shirley Bridges for the CBC horse outfit at 7 154 89 and D L O’Hern for Sherman Hunt of Miles City at 10 061 95. Local ranchers also purchased 2 692 16 dollars in parcels, amid opposition to the sale. County commissioners supported the sale as in the public interest. Petitions seek two large herd districts in the Oswego Frazer Bonin and Vida areas, with hearings to follow if approved.

Poplar Pool Hall Burglary Leads to Court Appearance

The pool room of Clarence Hanson at Poplar was burglarized Tuesday night. A quantity of cigarettes and silver was taken. George LaFontaine and Albert Whitright were arrested and charged with the burglary. They appeared before Judge Gordon, waived immediate hearing, and bonds of $1000 each were set. bail not furnished.

Cleanup Day at Resthaven Park by Lions

Lutheran Pastors Conference Held Across Northern Montana

The Northern Montana pastoral conference of the Lutheran church met this week in Scobey led by Rev. O R A Tollefson with Bishop A M Skindlevy and Rev. A G Lunde among attendees. The program featured talks on the pastor's call and duties with music by local choirs and an Easter cantata broadcast on station KGCX.

R M Perry of the Fargo Ford branch arrived Wednesday driving one of the new V-8 Fords. The model is described as roomier than prior versions yet compact with attractive lines and new features. Catholics Convene 22nd Convention in Wolf Point

A convention of Catholic clergy and delegates from women's organizations will meet in Wolf Point next Friday April 22 drawing at least 120 delegates from northeastern Montana parishes. Bishop O Hara and organizer Miriam Marks will attend. Events run 9 am church address lunch at K C hall afternoon business sessions until six o clock and holy hour 6 30 to 7 30.

Oscar Abrahamson Recovers as Coulter Visits at Galen

Oscar Abrahamson, recently hospitalized with pleurisy and a collapsed lung, is recovering fast at Galen Sanatorium. Charlie Coulter, formerly of the Coulter barber shop, visited him with Mr. Shinty, a county hospital patient, last week. Shanks of Bainville also seeks treatment for throat tuberculosis. Galen doctors see a good chance for a full cure.

Mrs Arrivee Elected Club President in Women’s Group

Mrs Arrivee was unanimously chosen as president of the Women’s club at the annual election held Tuesday evening. Mrs T R Parkes became vice president, Mrs J C Herman secretary and Mrs J H Coffey treasurer, with Mrs Tom Kelly heading the philanthropic department. Most officers had served last year, while Mrs Livingston, this year’s president, was elected district president at last fall’s convention. Guests hosted a reception at the Arrive home with discussions on the swimming pool project and other matters of interest.

A burglar broke into the Coffey shop Wednesday night and left a note of thanks for the clothing taken including overalls shirts socks and Mr Coffey s overcoat He left his own clothing in the store and it was assumed the theft was by a passerby who stopped in town.
