Schlaps To Be Hanged May 20 In Wolf Point Jail Yard

Ferdinand Schlaps faces execution in Wolf Point county jail yard on Friday May 20 1927 after district court set the date for his death penalty following a prior delay. Schlaps confessed to the double murder of Te Geisler and his wife near Bern post office on May 1 1926, claiming low mentality and lack of full accountability. The Geislers were shot in the farm home and barn after which Schlaps moved bodies to the Little Muddy river and kept $10 to $20 found in the house. The jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict and death sentence after a 16 day trial.

Yimmie Yonson A Well Liked Play at Liberty Theatre

Minnesotan Yimmie Yonson captivated a large audience at the Liberty theatre on Wednesday night. Vida Crafe Club presented the drama with Boyde H Netzger delivering a notable performance as Yonson. The home talent production offered strong ensemble work and praised dedication from the cast.

Barickman Promoted to Glasgow District Wire Chief

Bryan A. Barickman, long time manager of the local telephone exchange, is promoted to district wire chief for the Mountain States Telephone Company and will move with his family to Glasgow. He is succeeded by Billings’ Mr Rooney, arriving soon with wife and two children. Ray Bourne transfers to Livingston.

Lutheran dedication to be on May first

A preliminary notice from Rev. A C Joineon sets May 1 for the dedication of the new Lutheran church. Three sessions at 10 15 am 2 30 pm and 7 30 pm will host guests from nearby communities. Rev T F Gullixson of Minot will be principal speaker with several college and district leaders invited to participate. Seven Williston to Glasgow pastors and congregations are also invited.

Express Officials Visit Wolf Point on Duty

North district superintendent of the American Railway Express and G F Taylor route agent spent the day in Wolf Point in the interests of their company. They met Secretary Gordon of the Commercial club to discuss community matters in general.

Wolf Point Becomes M A A Service Bureau

Wolf Point is designated an Information Bureau for the Montana Automobile Association. Secretary Gordon will handle local service, with the club authority to establish the bureau. Wolf Point will appear on state highway maps as an information and service station alongside 12 other cities including Billings and Great Falls. The M A A is affiliated with the American Automobile Association, aiding long tours. a membership card is a valuable credential in trouble.

Mrs Lovell Elected New Wolf Point Woman’s Club President

March business meeting results show Mrs. W A Lovell named president with a full slate of officers. Other newly chosen posts include Mrs. Thomas Kelly as vice president and Mrs. Charles Simon as secretary, plus department vice presidents Mrs. Livingston and Mrs. Burgess.

Washington Printer Joins Herald Staff

Harry Inman is the new fore man in the Herald shop succeeding W. H. Rogers who returns to Stanley and Minot. Mr Inman comes from Tacoma Washington and is an experienced all round printer. He has been on the coast a year and found it damp, so he moves to Montana where it rains only part of the time.

Severson Returns From California Film Tour

Clarence J. Severson known as the traveling ambassador of We Movies arrived back Thursday morning from California. He reports a successful trip watching two major productions in Hollywood studios Uncle Tom's Cabin and Wines, with several other promising projects in progress unseen titles. He plans two to three weeks with family before resuming duties at the Butte film exchange.

Club Leader to Visit Roosevelt County for Club Work

M Vangel Russell assistant state club leader will spend April 18 to 23 in Roosevelt County meeting with prospective club members. Clubs will form in several communities with instruction for local leaders to carry on year round work. Riseell Works focuses on girls clubs and aims to start clothing foods and canning clubs for facilities where elders can lead. Rural need drives this expansion, boosting Montana club work aiming for farm youth benefit statewide.

Mrs Ann K Waring a field nurse for the state board of health visited Wolf Point on Wednesday. She also represents the Montana Tuberculosis Association and traveled from Glasgow to plan a county survey including school child health examinations and baby clinics. A Glasgow baby clinic she recently conducted was praised by bidders and health officials.

Powers Named Secretary of State by Governor Erickson

William Powers of Bainville is appointed secretary of state, succeeding RL N. Hawkins who had filled the role temporarily during Stewart’s suspension. Powers, a longtime Bainville banker and farmer, is a Democrat with deep involvement in northeastern Montana politics and civic affairs. Hawkins will resume his deputy examiner post at month’s end.

Come First Back Home From South With Cusker Race String

Dan Garouttee and Claude Clark returned to McCone county south of the river with Come First, part of Hank Cusker’s famous Come string. They sold other members in the south, kept Come First, and found success in Juarez Mexico and at Roseland county fair, Midland Empire fair, and Saskatoon tracks. Future plans include entering Montana fairs this fall with the Cusker horses and continuing to breed fast saddle horses from Kentucky stock.

Vida Dramatic Club stages in Wolf Point at Liberty Theatre

Mrs Luella Barry entertained the Vida Dramatic Club cast from Wolf Creek district in Wolf Point on Wednesday evening. The group, popularly known as the Vida Dramatic Club, was in town to present the play Vinnnie Your son's Yob at the Liberty Theatre.

Plane Added To Westland Equipment In California

Westland Way Inc of San Diego purchased a Ryan M-1 monoplane. The aircraft arrived in Scohey after a 1700 mile flight in 16 hours 18 minutes piloted by Frank W. Wuley. The plane, built by Ryan Airlines, is used in mail service and will aid air routes in North Dakota and Canada. Westland Oil plans include further government contracts and a New York to Parishop test.
