Ashland Wisconsin September 13 1896 letter from E D Perkins M D Superior Medical Examiner praises the Degree of Honor of the A O U W. It notes growth to 48000 members with 121500 in death benefits by January 1894 and describes organizational changes including Missouri jurisdiction handling beneficiary certificates and planned death benefit increases.
Platteville Wisconsin September 26 1898 correspondence reports Grand Master Thayer and Deputy Dougherty visiting to aid lodge growth. Twenty examined from a 35 applications with many more on the string. aim to close 200 to 230 by Thursday the 29th. Authors praise Dougherty as the right man and expect a livelier lodge with rising membership.
Official notice from the Ancient Order of United Workmen detailing decisions on Amendment to Section 6 of General Law 4. It explains that after August 1 1898 any member who sells intoxicating liquor retail becomes suspended from all rights and his beneficiary certificate void. It covers how suspensions are recorded, how members can appeal, and how liability for war relief assessments is allocated among Grand Lodges. Also notes a vacancy on the Supreme Lodge Finance Committee and appoints A F Bleach to fill it.
