Hodge Dinner in Mineral Point Draws Out Patriot Toasts

Yesterday's Hodge Dinner in Mineral Point drew a strong civic turnout. Excellency arrived with escort and heard a tribute from Moses M. Strong before a dinner prepared by Col. Nichols. Toasts praised the United States, Polk, independence, naturalized citizens, the army and navy, factories, the Constitution, and Wisconsin progress, with Gov. Dodge responding in patriotism. The event highlighted Mineral Point as Wisconsin's oldest inland town and its mining-era prospects.

The American Sentinel piece recalls Governor Floyd of Virginia and Dr. Linn as early champions of Oregon’s claim to U S. occupancy. It highlights Floyd’s persistent congressional advocacy, his kin’s ties to the territory, and the movement’s progression from vision to reality as Oregon attracts settlers and national attention. The item also quotes the Lowell Patriot on wage protections under protective policy and closes with a humor note from a Baltimore anecdote.
