Henry Leissen, Miller’s son-in-law, was found badly wounded as three ruffians broke in to kill the family of eight or nine, then fled. The assailants were pursued. two men named Fledges were captured in Nauvoo and jailed in Lee County. two others Brown and Johnson were suspected and sought.
