Mrs. Edward A. Buss of 55 Washington avenue hosted a Wednesday afternoon event for about thirty five Deaconess Aid Society members and friends. Mrs. F A Patterson of Everett served as guest of honor with talks on the General Work of the Society and related projects.
The Q and Q Club unveils a season of programs featuring Modern Novelists spanning October to December with authors such as Goodwin Edgeworth Austen and Dickens plus a list of poets historians philosophers and essayists. The schedule includes dates October 15 October 29 November 12 November 26 December 10 and December 51 with an annual lunch and election of officers.
Massive herring wash ashore along Pines and Saugus rivers and the North Shore after a southwest gale. Fishermen overloaded boats, causing piles along the shore and a price drop to 35 cents a barrel. Crowds fish from bridges using hooks to haul in the plentiful schools.
Frost Library opens weekdays 1 PM to 9 PM excluding holidays. A free exhibition titled Representative Art is on view. Donations include new books such as The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex by Darwin and works by Henry Van Dyke among others.
Beatrice May Key daughter of Mr and Mrs W S Key and Alfred Haywood of 142 Pauline street were married at the Unitarian Church Thursday at 7 p m with Rev William O Litchfield officiating. The bride wore white silk with long veil and orange blossoms and was attended by her sister Theresa Key. A reception followed at the bride’s home with many guests from Winthrop and out of town. The couple will reside after January 1 1908 at Bellevue avenue.
Residents urged to attend the Winthrop art exhibit at the old high school hall Pauline street Centre next week October 14 to 18 daily 3 to 5 and 8 to 10 p.m Admission 10 cents 5000 admissions hoped. Proceeds go to purchase reproductions from Elson car bons made from originals to brighten school rooms in Winthrop committee on Art-for-Schoole
Wenthrop Grocer William H. Hanley of Hermon and Pauline streets filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition. Total liabilities are 8,745 with 6,000 secured, 2,696 unsecured and 48 taxes. About 40 unsecured creditors and assets estimated at 1,000.
